Merry Clayton was hurt...
The woman who sang opposite Mick Jagger on the 1969 Rolling Stones classic "Gimme Shelter" was seriously injured in a car accident last week. THR reports that Merry Clayton suffered "severe injuries" in the Los Angeles accident. A statemnt on her official website reads, "Merry was involved in a major automobile accident. Merry sustained severe injuries to her lower body, including major trauma to her lower extremities. We are truly grateful that our dear Merry is still with us."
Clayton, 65, was featured in the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom. She sang backup on "Gimme Shelter," as well as Neil Young's debut album and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama."
On behalf of 411, our best wishes to Ms. Clayton and hopes for a quick recovery.
