They're among twelve musicians invited...
Eddie Vedder and Pharrell Williams were among this year's Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Billboard reports that the two were among the twelve invitees to the Academy's music branch along with Frozen songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, Gravity composer Steven Price, jazz bassist and composer Stanley Clarke, and composers Steve Jablonsky, Angie Rubin and Buck Sanders. Earl Ghaffari, Tony Renis, Charles Strouse and Warner Music Group owner Len Blavatnik were also invited.
The total number of invitations this year stands at 271. Invites are sent to those the Academy deems have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.
Pharrell was nominated for an Oscar last year for "Happy" while Vedder scored the 2008 film Into the Wild, winning a Golden Globe for the song "Guaranteed."
