Tommy Ramone of The Ramones Passes Away
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 07.12.2014

Variety reports that Tommy Ramone, the last surviving original member of the punk rock band The Ramones, has died. Ramone died on Friday at his home in Queens, New York. He was 62 years old.

Ramone had been in hospice care following bile duct cancer treatments. He stopped drumming for the band in 1984 and was replaced by Marky Ramone. He still worked with The Ramones throughout the years. Ramome was also credited for writing most of "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" and "Blitzkrieg Bop."

The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Tommy Ramone is survived by his longtime partner Claudia Tienan and an older brother. A private funeral service is planned.
