Radiohead, Mumford & Sons Go Mariachi For The Book of Life Soundtrack
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 07.14.2014

Fox's new animated film will include mariachi and norteño covers of Radiohead, Biz Markie, Mumford & Sons and Elvis Presley, among others. Billboard reports that director Jorge Gutierrez has included the covers of "Creep," "Just a Friend," "I Will Wait," "Can't Help Falling in Love" and Rod Stewarts' "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" into the script for The Book of Life, which will also include covers of songs by Café Tacuba, Kinky and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.

Gutierrez told the site, "I thought that at some point they'd be replaced. After we got 'Creep,' every band said ‘wow you got Radiohead.' That made it easier."

The film is based on on Mexican folk art, Day of Dead folklore, the Greek myth of Orpheus and Mayan culture and features the voices of Christina Applegate, Kate del Castillo, Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana. It opens on October 17th.

Guillermo Del Toro, who produced thye film, said, "Using norteño and mariachi music communicates to the audience Mexican culture is international. Mexico is more than folklore – it's the way we filter the influence of the world."
