Billboard reports that Justin Bieber's lawyers and Florida prosecutors said on Wednesday that more time is needed to work out a potential plea deal on charges that Bieber drove under the influence and resisted arrest.
Assistant State Attorney David Gilbert and Bieber's attorney Mark Shapiro asked for an additional three weeks. The matter was reset for August 5 by Miami-Dade County Judge William Altfield.
Bieber was arrested on January 23 in Miami Beach after police described an illegal street race between Bieber's rented Lamborghini and a Ferrari driven by a friend, R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff. Neither man was charged with drag racing. Bieber's alcohol breath test was below Florida's 0.02 limit for underage drivers, but urine tests showed the presence of marijuana and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax in his system. Bieber was charged with resisting arrest and driving on an expired license. Sharieff was also charged with a DUI.
