He thinks that Sterling is being overly punished...
KISS' Gene Simmons is taking Donald Sterling's side in his battle with the NBA. As you no doubt known, Sterling given a lifetime ban by the NBA and fined $2.5 million after he was caught on tape making a racist rant, which was then leaked to the media by his alleged mistress. He also lost a legal bid to prevent his wife from selling the team.
Simmons was doing an interview with the Wall Street Journal about his new AMC series 4th and Loud, about the Arena Football League team L.A. Kiss, and was asked if he followed the whole incident. Simmons replied "I'm on the side of Don Sterling" and said that while Sterling is "heinous," he believes that the man should have only been fined, since the remarks occurred privately.
Simmons continued, saying, "Because you say an off color joke or make a racist rant privately, that causes you to lose a job -- nobody would have a job...They're going to go after Sterling and he's going to put a few million dollars out there, because he can afford it – and he's going to ask the paparazzi out there to find videos of all the other team members talking trash and racist rants."
He also discussed Sterling's loss of privacy, saying, "I'm on the side of free speech in the privacy of your own home or privacy of the situation. Big brother has finally crawled in bed with us."
