Rolling Stone reports that Stevie Nicks has asked her fans to design a new shawl for her. she is working with Talenthouse for the competition. The winner will get $2,000 to create the shawl and a professional photo of Nicks modeling their design. The winner and photo will be displayed on her website and social media accounts. The winner will also get the shawl back. The winner will be chosen according to substance, creativity and originality. A runner-up will be selected by the Talenthouse community for a prize of $500.
She said: "In 1968, a very handsome boy brought me a poncho from South America. I knew it was magic and that someday I would copy it in chiffon or leather or beaded material. I realized that wearing a poncho or a long shawl gave me something to work with up on the stage. Big movements, big twirls, you need to be seen from far away. So I made that a big part of my stage clothes. It became totally intertwined in my fashion style."
The contest ends on September 29 and the winner will be announced on October 14. This is right around the time that the limited vinyl edition of Nicks' new album 24 Karat Gold - Songs From the Vault will be released. It's a compilation album with songs she wrote between 1969 and 1987, along with one or two from the mid-90s. She said that finding bootlegs on Youtube inspired her to remake the old tracks. The regular edition arrives on October 7.
