The Associated Press (via Billboard) reports that Jay Z and Beyonce are free and clear of any wrongdoing in their recent trip to Cuba last year. The US Treasury Department's inspector concluded that their trip to the country was legal under the rules that allow educational travel there.
Previously, Republican politicians in Florida expressed anger over their trip to Havana, Cuba, where the couple celebrated their fifth anniversary. In addition, Jay Z and Beyonce ate at high-end private restaurants and toured colonial Old Havana.
Currently, the US is still enforcing a 51-year embargo with Cuba that makes travel illegal for US citizens to Cuba for tourism. However, many Americans still travel to the island every year for academic, religious, journalistic purposes.
The inspector general's office released a report this week saying that the couple visited an art school and local theater group. This made their trip a legal educational exchange.
