UPDATEDx3: Suge Knight Shot Several Times During Chris Brown's VMA Pre-Party
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 08.24.2014

UPDATE 3: Chris Brown's rep has told Billboard that Brown was not involved in the incident that left Suge Knight with six gunshot wounds.

The rep told the site, "Chris hosted an event in Los Angeles last night to celebrate the upcoming release of his album X, during which an incident occurred. This incident did not involve Chris; he was merely the host of the event. He has and will continue to cooperate with the investigation."

UPDATE 2: Suge Knight's family has released a statement (via Billboard about the mogul's shooting:

The family of Suge Knight ask that you keep Suge in your prayers and to stray away from the negativity portrayed by the media. Suge is currently resting and has lost a lot of blood, he's human. He's done a lot of things for the community and the culture as a whole so we ask that you respect that.

In addition, West Hollywood Mayor John D'Amico told the LA Times, "This was just a regular night of fun on the Sunset Strip, and it was disrupted by criminals. Hopefully the Sheriff's Department will find out who the person or persons were and prosecute them to the full extent of the law."

UPDATE: TMZ reports that police are looking at gang motivations in Suge Knight's shooting at a pre-VMA nightclub. The site reports that the police are looking at the affiliation that Knight, Chris Brown (who hosted) and Game have with the Bloods and whether there could be any relation to the shooting.

The site notes that Game--a known member of the group--got in a fight outside the nightclub because he wasn't allowed in. Knight has been associated with the Bloods for years and Brown was throwing up gang signs and performed with a red bandana, which is the gang's color. There were said to be several known gang members around Brown at the time of the shooting.

Brown, of course, is on probation still and this could weigh negatively against him. TMZ also has video of the club when the gunshots go off, which you can see below. The site was told that a fight had broken out just before the gunshots were fired, which you can see in the vid. A total of three people were wounded, including of course Knight.

Of note, witnesses said that Brown stood during the shooting with his arms stretched out, "trying to look invincible."

ORIGINAL Suge Knight was shot six times during a pre-VMA party in California on early Sunday Morning. TMZ reports that the controversial hip-hop mogul was at a Chris Brown-hosted party at 10AK, a nightclub in West Hollywood, when shots were fired. Knight was shot in the stomach, arm and elsewhere.

Knight reportedly walked out of the nightclub under his own power. A police officer saw him and walked him to his police car, where he waited for the ambulance. Knight was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is expected to recover.
