Young Jeezy Pleads Not Guilty to Gun Possession Charge
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 08.27.2014

Billboard has a new report in the fallout of the recent shooting death during the Under the Influence of Music tour. Rapper Young Jeezy has opted to plead not guilty to a gun possession charge based on an assault rifle found on his tour base on Sunday. Also, rapper Wiz Khalifa had to cancel a future show in light of the recent shooting last Friday.

Eric Johnson was shot to death backstage during an Under the Influence show featuring Khalifa and Jeezy last Friday (August 22) at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. Johnson, aka Black E and Swoop, owned the record label Full Pull Entertainment. He was reportedly planning an afterparty for the show that would feature Jeezy at the Studio 8 nightclub in San Jose.

As a result, the next tour stop set for Chula Vista, California on Saturday, August 23 was cancelled. Event company and concert promoter, Live Nation, released a statement on the shooting and the company's cooperation with the Mountain View Police Department: "Due to an active investigation at the Shoreline Amphitheatre stemming from an incident after last night's performance, tonight's Under the Influence of Music Tour show in Chula Vista, CA has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. Ticket holders should return to the point of purchase for a refund. We abhor violence, of any kind. We continue to cooperate with authorities in their investigation into last night's isolated incident and any further inquiries need to be directed to the Mountain View Police."

The tour continues on Sunday with a show at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, California. Earlier in the day, Jeezy and five others were arrested at the venue after police discovered an assault rifle on Young Jeezy's tour bus. All five suspects have been charged with felony possession of an assault weapon. Bail has been set for the five at $1 million.

Yesterday, Jeezy pled not guilty to possessing an illegal assault weapon in court. To clarify, Jeezy has been charged for possession. No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting death of Johnson.

An unrelated concert for Wiz Khalifa was also cancelled at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. The event was canceled over concern from the recent shooting at Khalifa's concert. Per a statement from the venue: "Due to Michigan State University's review of recent events and assessment of campus concerns, MSU has decided to cancel the event that was scheduled for September 13, 2014, which was to be held at the Breslin Center on the campus of MSU."
