One of music's most powerful men, and Mariah Carey's ex-husband, has left Sony...
Tommy Mottola, chairman of Sony Music, has stepped down from the company and will now start his own record label. Mottola has been with Sony for 14 years.
Motolla is not shy to the media. He was married to Mariah Carey and was largely responsible for guiding her career during his first few years.
Recently, Michael Jackson blamed Motolla for poor sales of Jackson's Invincible album. Jackson has called Motolla "mean" and "racist" as well as "the devil."
Mottola has played key roles in launching the careers of Hall & Oates, John Mellencamp, Carly Simon, Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez and others, while serving as chairman of Sony Music, one of the most powerful labels in the industry.
