Mariah Carey Does Daytona

Mariah Carey, well on the comeback trail, ha s been tapped to kick off the festivities at the Daytona 500 on February 16 by singing the national anthem.

"We're thrilled to have this superstar join us for the 'Great American Race,'" said Daytona International Speedway President Robin Craig. "We're honored to have Mariah. I know her incredible voice will stir the hearts of our guests and competitors."

Carey will perform in front of an audience of millions when the 2003 Daytona 500 is broadcast live on Fox TV.

Carey is already performing Through The Rain as a part of the 30th annual American Music Awards festivities on January 13. Joining her for the show will be late additions Britney Spears, Beyonce Knowles, Vanessa Carlton, and LeAnn Rimes as presenters.

Other new presenters joining the lineup are Outkast, Busta Rhymes, Solange Knowles, comedian Steve Harvey, Marques Houston, and Trista Rehn from the reality series The Bachelorette.

Other performers already added to the show are Missy Elliott, who'll deliver Work It, unnamed songs from, Christina Aguilera, B2K, Kenny Chesney, Matchbox Twenty, Nickelback, Shania Twain, Kelly Osbourne, then a series of duets, starting with Elton John and Tim McGraw, who will pick up Tiny Dancer, Bobby Brown, and Ja Rule on Thug Lovin, and as yet unnamed duet by Toby Keith and Willie Nelson.

The program will be hosted by the Osbourne family, including Ozzy and wife Sharon. The executive producer is Dick Clark.
