American Idol Finalists Rushing New Albums
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 08.14.2007

American Idol's most recent finalist and first runner-up, Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis, have said that they're hard at work on their respective debut albums. The singers have been using downtime in the ongoing "American Idol Live!" tour to work on recording. Both hope to have their record out before Thanksgiving.

Sparks has recorded four songs for her debut thus far and has another session scheduled for this week. She hoped to complete the untitled record during an L.A. recording session after the tour wraps up in late September. Says Jordin, "It's kind of [got] Kelly Clarkson's pop edge, a little bit...and I recorded a ballad-y type song, like a power vocal song, and then I recorded just a really fun, fast one. I'm trying to mix everything together. I'm loving all the songs I'm recording, so hopefully that will come off the album when you listen to it and you'll be able to feel the emotion."

Meanwhile, Lewis has reportedly completed eight songs for his first album, tentatively titled Audio Daydream. Says Blake, "It's your favorite 80's mix tape...very inspired by Michael Jackson, Prince, Erasure, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, the Cure. It's all over the map, really -- very influenced by 80's hip-hop, old school breaks, whatever...They're letting me down the album I've always wanted to make."

Both Lewis and Sparks are signed to BMG.
