Plus, Mary J Blige debuts big...
Josh Groban moved another 757,000 copies of Noel to hold onto the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 for the fifth straight week. Noel has now been #1 on the charts for more weeks than any holiday album before it, besting Elvis' Christmas Album, which topped the charts for four non-consecutive weeks in the 50's. The album is also the best-selling record of 2007.
Mary J. Blige was the only artist to debut in the Top 10 this week, making a huge impact with her Growing Pains, which moved 629,000 units to land solidly at #2. This is Blige's sixth straight album to reach the Top 2, following 2005's #1 hit The Breakthrough. The lead single from Growing Pains, "Just Fine", is a recent Top 30 hit.
The rest of the Top 5 saw huge sales increases during the last week before Christmas. Alicia Keys' As I Am falls from #2 to #3, despite a 62% increase, while a pair of former #1's, Eagles' Long Road Out Of Eden and Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus, nabbed #4 and #5. That's a two spot jump for Miley Cyrus' debut.
The rest of the Top 10 also saw varied sales increases. Now 26 dropped from #4 to #6 in its sixth week (+22%), Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride hopped from #9 to #7 (+57%) and Taylor Swift held steady at #8 (+35%). High School Musical 2 continues to hang around, faling from #6 to #9, while Chris Brown's Exclusive scored a giant 65% uptick in sales to reappear at #10.
