Kiss to Stop Recording Music
Posted by  on 02.09.2008

Kiss front man Gene Simmons says the band will never make another record because music is a dying industry. Having not released an album since 1998, Simmons says there is no sense of urgency to record again, as there is no money in selling records anymore.

"There's no new Kiss material because there is no record industry. Any band who tries to do new material is trying to climb a slippery mountain,"

"Every day record companies are folding. It'd be nice to have new Kiss songs, but what's the business model? Do you just put songs on the Internet for free? Then what?"

simmons maybe the worst human being on the planet at pissing all over his bands legacy, but he does have a point, in what is the point, what can Kiss do that they havent done already? Hes also correct int he fact that he will make o dollars off a new kiss record, hell i just downloaded "Animalize" for free an hour ago.

If the industry is dying it is because 30 some odd years Gene Simmons injected the vein of the industry with the slow death known as style over content. Kiss may be the worst thing to ever happen to the music industry. The industry is not dying, what old codgers like Simmons need to embrace is the advent of technology and the shift of the paradigm in the industry by means of the internet. The recordings are of a lesser quality but for the most people our quick fix society doesn't care. The Average Joe doesn't notice the lesser sound quality nor do they care so long as they could click on a button to get the song of their choice. As long as there are real music fans there will be full quality discs available for purchase. If the industry is dying Gene, I guarantee you it won't be buried in an official Kiss Coffin.

Radiohead embraced the change and released their new album online in away that the buyer could pay what they thought was the worth. They made plenty of money that way. Now they released the cd as a hard copy format and are still making money. Great business idea and I think that is the future! Kiss can retire. Who listens to Kiss anyway?

I know I'm setting myself up for flaming, but has KISS ever recorded a good song? Every song I've heard by them sucked ass. They had a nifty image, and probably put on a decent show, but the music itself was among the worst I've ever heard. Tone-deaf, boring, unoriginal..even for 1975. The only thing they had going for them was a "look". The never had talent, unless it was for marketing. Either way, Gene, the fact that KISS won't be recording any more is no big loss to the world of music.

Does anyone else think that any time Gene Simmons says anything, someone should start playing Ted Dibiase's old music in the background?

One thing I'll say for Simmons, he's a good quote. I remember what he said about Eddie Vedder once Pearl Jam went into that whole "we don't want to be famous phase"-
What is the point of standing on stage like a plant, if making money makes you depressed, give it to me-Gene

If nothing else, Gene is a smart businessman. He made a shit-load of money of using the KISS name so I can't fault him for what he thinks.

na na na na

kiss is one of the most over-rated acts ever...and you know they'll return for the "honest we're retiring this time tour"

to say this up front: kiss is my all-time favourite band.
and i hate gene simmons as hell. though i love how he made kiss big and i love the merchandising. but there is no way i was ever going to buy a single cd from them. all i bought was second hand lps. and of course merchandising. also second hand though.
and i can understand that they dont wanna do a new record, since probably no one would buy it. psycho circus sucked just as almost everything that came after the original line-up. but that doesnt mean it wont work for other artists. the radiohead-fanbase is totally different from the kiss fans.
ah fuck it. just dont listen to him.
but whoever said there wasnt a single good kiss-song is f**** liar. black diamond for example rules your f*** ass!

Yeah, God forbid Gene Simmons can't make a few more thousand dollars on his music. I am sick and tired of these selfish asshole hasbeen musicians portraying music as a dollar sign and not art.

LEAVE GENE SIMMONS ALONE!!!

Posted By: Frosty (Guest)  on February 10, 2008 at 07:16 AM

To quote Gene Simmons's former band mate Ace Frehly,

"It's Show-business baby!"

Thats exactly what Kiss is. It's not art. It's not deep musical journeys into the unknown, it's a show, it's entertainment, and a business. These guys need to make money to put this stuff on and make all the merch, and record the music. They need to make money because this is their livleyhood.

They aren't some upstart band of young kids playing clubs because they love doing it. They are old dudes, who like the thrill of doing an extravagant stage show infront of 20,000 appreciative fans.

KISS have nothing to prove. They have no need to make new music because it wont boost attendances and all that crap. People just want to hear the classic songs.

If Gene cant make money from it why would he do it? He's done all the rockstar shit, and can make money through his marketing company. And before you say oh he has too much money, the only person who can decide that is Gene Himself. He says he was poor once and doesn't want to go back.

He makes very good ponts, he just tends to shoot himself in the foot by coming across like an asshole

Not a moment to soon... no wait scratch that, about twenty years too late- fuck Simmons and fuck KISS

I think Radiohead fans all downloaded their album for free. How do you make plenty of money that way? I agree that people should have to pay for the product they are getting. People should not work for free. Downloaders are the sole reason the music industry sucks now.

Posted By: Guest#4038 (Guest)  on February 10, 2008 at 03:35 PM

I think that people tend to lump together 'The Music Industry' with 'The Record Industry'. Whilst 'The Record Industry' is floundering with dropping sales, 'The Music Industry' is thriving. Just look at Live attendances and merchandising figures as well as rising numbers of downloaded tracks - they're is a huge interest in music at the minute. Remember the two entities are completely seperate from each other.

Then What? You Make Money By Selling Out Every Arena You Tour In...Wow why doesnt he just say "I was only in it for the money and you fans can go screw".

Honestly, though, is anyone pining for new KISS songs? I know I'm comfortable with songs they recorded before I was born.

How can Radiohead make money? I'll just give you this quote from an interview with Wired.com.---
Byrne: Are you making money on the download of In Rainbows?

Yorke: In terms of digital income, we've made more money out of this record than out of all the other Radiohead albums put together, forever — in terms of anything on the Net. And that's nuts. It's partly due to the fact that EMI wasn't giving us any money for digital sales. All the contracts signed in a certain era have none of that stuff. ---

Kiss was one of the great American bands and one of the great American success stories. Geez people, most of you are too young to remember the greatness that was Kiss. They never set out to be the inovators of rock music, they wanted to be the best show band in the world. Do your homework, the numbers don't lie, they did it. And if they want to use their name and logo to make money - as long as people pay for the stuff, God bless them. We should all "suck" as much as Gene Simmons. Yeah he is arogant, but please, for the last 30 years people have been telling him how great he is. And at one time, NO ONE could touch Kiss. So just laugh at his comments, or get mad, but it's only Rock n Roll people. There will be a new group to someday break Kiss' records.

Gene $immon$ = opinionated, greedy, blowhard A$$hole.

KI$$ = relevant at one time (70s) and since, less concerned about fans and more about retirement funds.

Thank you, Gene, for promising no more KI$$ music as it would suck horribly anyway. You ran out of ideas long ago.
