A sad end to an extraordinary legend in gospel music...
Joyce "Dottie" Rambo, an influential and legendary gospel singer, died early yesterday when her tour bus ran off the highway and struck an embankment. She was 74.
Seven other people on the bus were injured in the wreck about two miles east of Mount Vernon, Mo., on Interstate 44, the Missouri Highway Patrol said. They were hospitalized in Springfield with moderate to severe injuries, according to the patrol.
The cause of the accident is unknown, but it could have been caused by the tornadoes and storms that swept the area on Saturday.
Rambo has had more than 2,500 published songs, including gospel classics such as "He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need" and the 1982 Gospel Music Association Song of the Year, "We Shall Behold Him."
I've always been a fan of Dottie's, both because she was so prolific and also because she forged ahead by faith through personal hardships, which included the breakup of her family and partial paralysis. God bless her friends and family.
