Gene Simmons Says Radiohead Is Contributing To The Demise Of The Music Industry
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 06.17.2008

Radiohead have been blasted by KISS for giving their music away for free.

Bassist Gene Simmons says their decision to offer In Rainbows practically free online is contributing to the demise of the record industry and insists his band would never follow suit.

Gene said: "The record industry is dead. It's six feet underground and unfortunately the fans have done this. They've decided to download and file share. There is no record industry around so we're going to wait until everybody settles down and becomes civilized. As soon as the record industry pops its head up we'll record new material."

Which means he is waiting to find a couple of hacks to put in Peter and Ace's costumes and bang out there hits from 30 years ago. He should just give it up. I have no problem with him sitting on his pile of money, but he needs to stop pretending that Kiss are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

and this new material will suck, like almost all Kiss material.

Gee, I hope everybody starts acting civilized real soon so KISS can release a new album!

KISS sucks. Gene needs to get over himself.

...meanwhile only old people would buy a Kiss record these days or go see their 14th farewell tour.

Seriously, fuck Kiss.

The recording industry is not dead, as evident by their continued lawsuits against p2p users. Gene's just pissed off that his stacks of millions are dwindling and he won't be able to gas up his Hummer since record sales are down.

i dont think anyone cares if kiss ever makes another album again, so you can stay hidden!

God Gene like you haven't made enough money...also most bands are adapting well to file sharing, with more and more people going legit with I-tunes, Rhapsody, etc. Evolve or die Gene... on-line content is not going anywhere.

Posted By: EDvolvED (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 11:46 AM

That makes me want to continue downloading just so we don't have to hear new Kiss.

Gene Simmon' s assumes we actually care what he thinks.. His music died in the 70's its just taken him 30 years to realise he's a talentless drone with a great makeup artist

Posted By: Stuart (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 11:53 AM

I heard it costs $.25 to even use the name 'Jean Cimmons' in a sentence.

Do us all a favor, don't record anything ever again.

Mmm. I'll hold my breath with a complete lack of anticipation for new KISS material.

Posted By: Jeremy Thomas (Registered)  on June 17, 2008 at 12:00 PM

Wow, just wow. If kiss makes music anywhere near the brillance of Radiohead they could talk. Gene, doesnt Kiss make enough from there overrated shows anyway?

Posted By: Pat (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 12:17 PM

To paraphrase Gene:

"I haven't figured out a way to make mega-millions off of this newfangled technology yet, so it must suck. And it's all because of the fans."

It's like when engineers blame the customers for not adopting a product. GET A CLUE, MORANS~!!

Gene, you have giant piles of money already. Just shut up.

aside from destroyer kiss has never offered anything to solidify themselves as anything but one hit wonders. although they will forever hold a special place in my heart for performing god of thunder in WCW ushering in one of wrestlecraps finest creations...the kiss demon!

Posted By: hellboysetsfire (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 12:19 PM

I disagree with most everyone here that claims kiss sucks. They truly have many many songs that are great. I see no reason to hate on the past just because he has become an old person that doesn't understand how to adapt to technology. Although, downloading free music is in fact killing the industry. The industry as a whole just needs to learn how to adapt.

Am I alone in wishing Gene Simmons would meet his demise. FN big mouth idiot know one cares about you go stick your head back up Donald Trumps Azz

new album by kiss = EPIC FAIL!

Posted By: peter chris (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 01:02 PM

I love Kiss. Well who they used to be anyway. Nowadays, they just keep releasing different greatest hits compliations and their fans already have all of those songs.

Posted By: Satan (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 01:17 PM

Yes, the record industry is dead...but the MUSIC industry has never been better. Look at the variety out there and the fact that someone like me can track a song and then put it online for MILLIONS to hear.

Posted By: Guest#3765 (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 01:17 PM

Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have made more money by catering to fans online then when they did while stuck in the record industry. Plus they have made better quality music. This is the future. If you can't deal with that Gene, then fuck off! Your music sucks anyway. It's just hard for Gene to understand that people want to listen to Radiohead and not Kiss.

Posted By: Trent (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 02:40 PM

Ooohh, millions could hear your songs you spent hours writing, recording, producing...and millions can hear your song...FOR FREE. Cause thats how business works...pour everything you can into something for nothing. That makes sense...

Posted By: Guest#8982 (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 02:47 PM

I think it all boils down to what is the reason you make music. Is it for the sake of art or to make lots of money. Gene has never said that he didn't get into music for the money. In fact, he is proud of that fact. Well, music and the snatch of course.

Posted By: Mr. C. (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 03:03 PM

We put a lot of work into our songs and they are online for free.

Music does not always have to equal money.

Ah the senseless morons have already chimed in with the "Gene Simmons has too much money" argument. Who are you to say gene simmons has too much money?

Why should he bother doing new material if it's not gonna make any money? He's an old dude, who used to be poor. He doesnt want to be poor again. So why should he give away his property (his music) for free.

It's tremendous how people try and justify file sharing. I'm surprised that no-one mentioned that lars ulrich is a dickhead yet.

Also this article is suspicious in that, i've seen the interview where gene said what is in quotations, and he never mentions radiohead. The article doesnt even quote gene saying that, it just suggests he did, which is suspect journalism at best.

i gotta agree with Zakk. What if these jackoffs did honest work, and someone stole it for next to nothing, they be pissed to. Because its some rich dude, everbodys says he is a dick for complaining he is get stole from.

i would love to see a new kiss album come out. But I know that will never happen with now.. oh well guess i'll just have to survive with all my other kiss albums. OH Nick (Guest) no only old people buy kiss albums or go to kiss concerts i'm 25 years old and i saw kiss when i was 14 and again in my 17th b-day.

Posted By: The Meyerz (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 05:35 PM

When there are talented groups from the past like GNR, Motley Crue, Kool G Rap, NWA, Sly and the Family Stone, Earth Wind and Fire, etc not making music I'm not worried about KISS

Posted By: hulksmash54 (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 05:36 PM

Hey yeah, Lars Ulrich IS a dickhead!

Posted By: jason newsted (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 06:26 PM

Guess which torrent program is on his machine? Or did he buy anything from Radiohead, right?!

Posted By: Xan (Guest)  on June 17, 2008 at 06:31 PM

Yeah, maybe Radiohead should start selling lunch boxes, coloring books and action figures. Now THAT'S rock and roll!

roll eye at GS.

Most of you (if not all) are to YOUNG to remember the mark Kiss made and the people that tried to emulate what Kiss did.

Are they the greatest songwriters ever? No, but songs such as Black Diamond, She, RnR All Night, Creatures of the Night, etc. are great.

The best part about music is if you don't like one band, you can pick a different one.

Gene Simmons is a multi millionaire who came from NOTHING.
Instead of slamming him, you should see what he did that made him successful. Maybe if you had a work ethic like Gene you would be more than you are.
I know if I had one tenth of the ideas that Kiss came out with over the years I would be a rich man. So...
