It's a formality, really, but Lil Wayne debuts at #1 this week on the Billboard 200 with Tha Carter III (2), which moved over a million copies in just seven days. It's the fastest selling record since 50 Cent's 2005 phenomenon The Massacre. It's Wayne's first #1 album and sales are nearly quadruple the first week numbers of 2005's The Carter II. The new set was boosted by the #1 single "Lollipop", which features Static Major.
Plies debuts strong but at a distant #2 this week, as his Definition Of Real moved 215,000 copies. The album is led by the single "The Real Testament", which is currently poised to break into the Hot 100's Top 10.
Now 28 falls one spot to #3, still managing to move 138,000 units in its second week. Last week's chart topped, Disturbed's Indestructible, drops to #4 this week after pushing 102,000 copies. Following closely behind is another former #1, Usher's Here I Stand, which moved 101,000 CDs in its third week, dropping from #3 to #5. At only three weeks old, Usher's set is the oldest album in the Top 10. Journey's Revalation falls a spot to #6.
N.E.R.D. debuts at #7 this week with Seeing Sounds, their first album in over four years. The lead single "Everybody Noze" just missed the UK's Top 40, while the new track "Spaz" is poised to break into the Hot 100 next week.
Alanis Morissette debuts at #8 with Flavors Of Entanglement. The lead single "Underneath" is an Adult Top 40 hit.
My Morning Jacket score their first Top 10 album, debuting at #9 this week with Evil Urges. Their last album, 2005's Z, peaked at #67. The band recently announced a New Year's Eve show at Madison Square Garden.
Weezer rounds out the Top 10 this week, slipping six places to #10.
