Nas Picketing Fox News
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 07.23.2008
Nas joining against the news network's percieved attacks on Obama...
Nas will join the members of political organizations Color of Change and Move On today in delivering a petition to Fox News' New York office.
The petition demands that the television company discontinue attacking black Americans, specifically Senator and Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, via its news programs.
Over the last month, Color Of Change and Move On have collected more than 600,000 signatures via their website. Drawing ammunition from incidents like Fox News referring to Mrs. Obama as a "baby mama," both organizations, along with Nas, will deliver the petition at 2 p.m. today.
Nas released his controversial untitled album on July 15th, which boasts the track, "Sly Fox." On the song, Nas says that the cable channel twists news regarding the black and brown communities into negative stereotypes.

I don't necessarily disagree about FOX News, but the fact that this statement is coming from an artist who wanted to title his latest album with the N-word makes it a lot less credible.

Nick is an idiot. FOX news is the most biased news show outside of TMZ.

Not if you knew the whole concept behind the album, or possibly even listening to his music.

He's angry about FOX taking shots at Obama? i could care less about Obama at this point, the guy is already caput in my opinion for flip flopping on the war issue, and no, i'm not a Republican either, both parties are just as evil, corrupt and have sold this country and its future down the river for corporate and special interest groups(GET OUT OF THE LEFT-RIGHT PARADIGM, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE).
Obama says he wants troops out of Iraq within 16 months of taking office but now plans to deploy them into Afghanistan instead. So much for "Change" or some other BS abstract idea like that.
frankly, i don't know about you folks out there but i'm far more upset at Fox News for continually catipulting lies that Iran is still pursuing nuclear weapons to destroy Israel and helping Iraqi's across the border kill US/British troops which they have absolutely NO evidence of, unless you count murderous traitor warhawk scum like John Bolton and Joe Lieberman who practically foam at the mouth at the thought of dead Iranian grandmothers and children as "evidence", again, just towing further propaganda to get us bogged down in another war that WILL bankrupt the country, send America into a full blown military state where the constitution/bill of rights will be void and literally send oil past the $200/barrel mark, making it about $8-$10 per gallon at the pumps.
You think i'm joking about this? war with Iran at this point would be absolutely catastrophic, it will be watching the start of World War 3 if the US begins bombing campaigns over Iran, which will prompt a huge response from the Iranians, who have threatened to actually turn their troops loose in Iraq and Afghanistan which border Iran to the east and west respectively creating TOTAL bedlam in the middle east.
I'm sure i don't need to explain this to most of you, but there are still some out there with the notion that Iran is the reason gas prices are so high(more lies) and thus, military action is the only discourse, when in reality, it will effect EVERYONE and people will notice drastic changes in domestic policy should such an event take place,THAT is my issue with Fox news.

i watch fox news everyday and the attack on obama and his wife is constant, and if any other channel says anything non-flattering to mccain they say their unamerican etc.
i live in ny and when i talk to people about politics it gets pathetic i can only imagine the ignorance some deal with living in the fly-over states.

“I don't necessarily disagree about FOX News, but the fact that this statement is coming from an artist who wanted to title his latest album with the N-word makes it a lot less credible.”
By saying that his use of the N-word makes him less credible you are showing that you either have not heard his album or that you do not understand the young black population for who he speaks. We all live in America, and yet our experiences are unique. In the version of the American reality in which I live, Nas’ attempt to entitle his album the N-word signals that he is addressing important social issues that will provoke constructive dialogue in social spaces. It seems that in your version of the American reality Nas’ attempt to entitle his album the N-word is uncouth. I respect your sensitivity to the issue, and yet I also respect Nas’ talent and freedom of speech. Lastly, if the use of a racial slur causes a man/woman to become “less credible”, then 99% of the American population has long ago loss credibility; we are all guilty.
Through his music, Nas speaks against social injustices from a vantage point that not everyone can understand, but we should all respect is creative expression. His music speaks for marginalized urban communities that have not been afforded a platform to speak their truth. Nas is not poor, but the cry of the ghetto poor is heard through is music. Moreover, as Howard Zinn wrote, “the cry of the poor may not be just, but if we do not listen we will not know what justice is”. It is great that he is joining the movement as has become the eminent voice in Hip Hop Culture.

Yeah well if you listen to the album, you might be able to understand why he calls it that. That album is amazing and focuses on a lot of issues that are affecting minority communities and the world in general. It's like he held up a big mirror in front of U.S. society so it could see what it has become.

Nas is not just another moron rapper. He wanted to name the album ni**er to challenge the ideals and meaning of the word. Nas contends that it is no longer derogatory since black culture has infiltrated all forms of life. like in one of his new songs, nas says "were all niggas now". He wants to take the power away from the word.
Posted By: Rocky (Guest) on July 23, 2008 at 12:46 PM
Nick, understand he wanted that title because the album has the theme of how the n-word has effected the black community and the people's perception of the black community. Nas isn't your typical bling-n-hos rapper. The word and it's use is a running theme through many songs on the album.

i give him credit for doing it, Nas is doing nothing but good right now rather then boast about what he has or how big he is, he is dealing with real life, get off ur ass and do somthin issues.
the album name was to just to get ppl's attention and it worked so all the better for him i say

Ohhh no please don't say anything bad about Obama. If and when they talked bad about McCain will these people be protesting?
Oh and where were they when Michael Steel (R-MD)was being called an Oreo cookie by his Democratic opponents? I guess he doesn't count because he is Republican.
F Nas and F Obama and F his Baby Mama

To the people who gave me some genuine information on what Nas was up to with his new record, thank you. And for the people who bashed me, read the first line of my post again. "I don't disagree" meant I agree with Nas regarding the bias displayed by Fox News. Some of you should learn to read.
Posted By: Nick (Guest) on July 24, 2008 at 12:59 AM
Fox News attacking Obama? PLEASE. What about CNN's blatant biased towards the man or how about NBC, CBS, and ABC? Hell even late night shows are biased towards him. (John Stewart anyone?) So if Nas wants to stop these attacks then how aout a rock band gets the left leaning media to stop critizing McCain?
Posted By: Don (Guest) on July 24, 2008 at 08:14 AM
the people that call FOX biased should take a peek at MSNBC. that douchebag Keith whatshisname isnt biased at all, is he.
Posted By: Z-MAN (Guest) on July 24, 2008 at 12:06 PM
Why should they stop criticizing McCain? The guy can't even fucking read a teleprompter right.
And I don't know about you but I think it'd be better if someone who has a bedtime of 7:30 and who is two years away from dying anyway wasn't our future president ;)
