Britney Spears' Jury Taking Weekend To Deliberate
Posted by Rebecca Stone on 10.18.2008

The jury in Britney Spears' trial is taking the weekend to contemplate whether the pop goddess is guilty of driving in California without a valid license. Jurors left a San Fernando Valley courthouse after deliberating the misdemeanor charge for slightly more than two hours. With no verdict reached, the jury of eight women and four men adjourned and were told to return Monday.

Los Angeles Deputy City Attorney Michael Amerian declined to say what punishment he would seek if Spears is convicted. She faces up to six months in jail and a fine, though her lack of a prior criminal record means a lighter penalty is likely. What about her mental track record?

In case you don't know what all this is about, the jurors are weighing whether Spears was required to have a California license when she hit a parked car and left the scene without leaving a note in August 2007. Amerian contended that Spears was ostensibly a Los Angeles resident because she chose to get married here, got divorced here, and her two sons were born at LA-area hospitals.

Amerian said Spears rejected two offers for a resolution. Spears' attorney, J. Michael Flanagan, has said she refused the deals because she didn't want a criminal record, and plans to appeal if convicted.

how hard can this be?

she either had a license or didn't. the fact that this went to a jury trial is about as ridiculous as OJ Simpson facing life imprisionment for NOT breaking the law in getting his own memorabilia back.

america, land of the free and home of the WTF?

I'm English so I don't really understand the legalities of this but surely there is a law in place?!? Either she needs the licence or she doesn't.
I don't see why this has to go before a jury.

So Guest#0219... Guess you think its not illegal to hold people at gunpoint in a hotel room? how about killing your wife? You should really think before speaking. He got away the first time, but finally got whats coming to him. As for the actual subject... Brittany is fucked up and shouldnt have a drivers license, She is crazy, but I dont think she should go to jail for 6 months.

And the fact that she has the right to a fair trial is correct, but it should have been a plain and simple decision. Any normal person would of got fucked in that situation... Im sick of these celebrities getting away with everything. I think they should take her license away for a really long time, not like she needs it anyways... and slap a nice big fine on her ass. Maybe jail for like a week, but that will just give her ammo for another album like DMX. WTF is wrong with the world we live in? haha

Sorry for venting, Who agrees?

I do.

When you point a gun on another person (whether it discharges or not), it's a crime, unless used in self defense, but a court has to agree.

Brit, if you didn't want to have a criminal record, you've gotten a real liscense. Fine her, AND give her a record, remember, this isn't the first time.
