Kanye Likely To Outsell Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy
Posted by Daniel Wilcox on 11.28.2008

Hits Daily Double are reporting that Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy will land at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling approximately 300,000 copies in it's first week out. The album will be topped by Kanye West's 808s And Heartbreak.

Chinese Democracy scored a record 8.4 million streams when the album debuted on MySpace beginning midnight on Thursday, November 20th through midnight Sunday, November 23rd. The premiere of Chinese Democracy was the biggest promotion in MySpace's five year history, with every MySpace territory signing on to participate.

Chinese Democracy (Black Frog/Geffen Records) is available on CD and vinyl (accompanied by a free digital download of the tracks) at Best Buy and Best Buy.com in the US, and digitally through iTunes.

no one wants an axl solo album.

Take in effect that the band is selling thru a store that has only 1,400 stores and has little promotion. Plus its kicking ass across the world. Pity Axl huh ?

The album is selling pretty good across the globe and hell , for a band that isn't touring & not promoting....thats pretty damn good. And the fact the last album came out 14 years ago as well.

Maybe the article should read.."I stopped caring 14 years ago."

another Kanye album...so how big will is EGO get after this..think he is better than Jesus..

Axl jerked us around for way too long. I haven't heard a single song off Chinese Democracy and I'm going out of my way not to hear it. No Slash, no Duff, don't put a Gn'R label on it.

Slash has hardly proved in the past 14 years he is ABOVE any of the songs contained on Chinese Democracy. I couldn't care less whether it's right or wrong to label it Guns N' Roses (it's funny how many of you complaining were evidently mere babies during GnR's time) it's a great album containing many songs, were the big bucks to come in and the big egos to go out, I'd love to see the ACTUAL Guns n' Roses perform live someday.

Take the album out of the context of the long wait and it's great. Fuck you pathetic whiney douchebags.

Um so fucking what? Kanye West sells his albums in every store, has videos on all the music video channels that play hip hop and has been a recent mainstream musical figure for awhile now.

Use some common friggin' sense. The new GnR album is doing good. And its a damn good album, especially when you consider what else has been floating around so called mainstream rock these days.

fuck Kanye West. And anyone calling this an Axl solo album is fucking retarded and either a) hasn't listened to the album or b) knows nothing of GnR to even comment anyway

Exactly, to sell 300,000 units through one outlet is amazing. And when your not an artist the teen crowd is into makes it even better. Look at the Lay off between studio albums, 14 yrs. after Kanyes's last he couldn't pull this off. Not when hip and rap dates itself so heavily.

I can understand that people gave up. Kanye album is horrible though do to this horrible vocoder trend. I just dont get it.

Ugh, I'm not a fan of the new GnR, but seriously, f*ck Kanye, his music blows and Kanye the person is even worse. Shame on you America.

"anyone calling this an Axl solo album is fucking retarded and either a) hasn't listened to the album or b) knows nothing of GnR to even comment anyway"

Basically it is an Axl solo album. He controlled the writing, lyrics, and production. The others guys had input I'm sure but you know, and can tell, Axl had the final word. There was a lot of the over produced rock ballad sound of Axl's old songs with none of the dirty sound of Slash and catchy riffs Izzy wrote.

Axl is a great songwriter but in a band setting he was restricted from going overboard and getting lost in his own head.Wich is what I didn't like about the new album and explains the fourteen year production time. Some songs work because or maybe despite of him sitting in a booth fiddlling with them and layering them. The majority are so overproduced and layered it's a muddled mess. One song has five guitars playing on it.It just becomes a wall of noise.

Dude, I couldn't wait for this album to come out.

Like... 5 years ago.

Now it's just lame to even care.

"One song has five guitars playing on it.It just becomes a wall of noise"

Many a fine album has been produced with the "wall of sound" technique. I enjoy picking up some new aspect of the production during each listen; it's like taking a puzzle apart piece by piece.

At any rate, I find it amusing that so many people have this animosity towards Axl Rose. If I was given carte blanche by my record company to take as long as I wanted and to spend what I wished in the production of an album, I'd run up a thirteen million dollar tab over the course of seventeen years too. I think everyone who is dismissing this album outright (and I'll never understand how people can do that without listening to it a couple of times) are simply jealous that Axl has been sitting in his basement and laughing maniacally while messing around on his computer for the better part of two decades.

And besides, the last time Slash and Duff et al were in GnR, they produced The Spaghetti Incident. Now that was a bad album...

I heard both albums suck.

Posted By: JM (Guest)  on November 29, 2008 at 12:08 PM

I bought the album. i've given it a few listens and it's alright. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but it's not bad.

I don't understand all the haters. Why hate? Either you like the music and buy the album or you don't. Simple, no?

The biggest mistake they made with AC/DC and G'n'R was putting them both exclusive to one specific store or another. Best Buy got G'n'R, AC/DC was only available at Wal-Mart. IF the companies had the brains to release them EVERYWHERE, they would have been #1 without problems. Not cool. I wish Chinese Democracy was #1 just to show that they -are- still relevant and the sales prove it and that Kanye is nothing but a racist no-talent bum.

Except it didn't work that work that way, did it? Life sure sucks, doesn't it? So cut yourself, pussy.

Kanye and Axl should wrestle in a chainsaw on a pole match. Axl wins and the Jonas Brothers come out and beat Axl down nWo style. Then Jesus comes out and blows all of them up sending the crowd home happy.

it is an axl solo album. Ive been around long enough to say so . I bought live like a suicide when it first came out on Vinyl. I bought appetite when it first came out. this new one isnt GNR ,its axl.. and its not that impressive.
its like when they changed the recipe for coke. same name but just isnt as good as the original

LOL at the tool who said black people can't be racist, because white people are the only racist people right moron???

axl isnt promoting or touring this cd, but still managed a number 2 spot? thats good news. it's almost like the band is starting over since it's a new crew and new sound. HOWEVER..if the former band members come back expect the world to end

Note also that Kanye had his album on iTunes for $4.99 this week and Chinese Democracy was full price.

rac·ism n.

1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Black people can be racist. If a black person feels all white, mexican, asian, etc. people are inferior they are racist.

Although I have no idea why anyone would say Kanye is.

For one thing Keyboardist Dizzy Reed has been in the band for nearly 20 years and has co-wrote the songs with Axl since the Use Your Illusion albums. So for the people who are saying that its an Axl Rose solo record are just ignorant.
