I don't get it.

He never said Obama was God--he said he was like God in that Obama is taking a more worldly approach to his administration as compared to Reagan or Bush. America is not alone in the world and Obama portrays that in his administration. He is not Reagan and Bush (republican) protectionism, and understands that America must work together with the world--not alienate the world.

This happened three weeks ago, didn't it? And no commentary aside from "This is 'fair and balanced journalism', folks..."? Also, I think the title may be missing a word?

So if it's up to the commenters to dissect this 37 second clip, I would just like to add Thomas's comment about this quote (available on his Wiki):

"What I said was: "In a way, Obama's standing above the country, above -- above the world, a sort of god." I was not being literal. During a discussion about presidential rhetoric, I was comparing Ronald Reagan's patriotic appeals with Obama's attempt to transcend parochialism."

Such a description will certainly make for great soundbites in conversative-funded media offerings. However, I'm having trouble seeing anything much more meaningful in it than that. Could be partly why the story hasn't gotten much attention in a busy few weeks of 'news'.

Scooty, while I agree that this appears to come from left field it was part of a broader conversation from FandF.

You see Crow denied that any left wingers were refering to Obama as a god.Well here you have two left wing news sources in MSNBC and Newsweek saying that Obama"hes sort of a god" It is really pathetic.

As far as damage control for Thomas, nice try.He said what he said.It wasn't inaccurate to quote it back at them.Inaccurate would be to say Sarah Palin said she"could see Russia from her house" which anyone with a brain knows was Tina Fey.

I think even left wingers such as yourself would be worried about the medias love affair with Obama.Wake up.

Oh cmon, its painfully obvious he was making a joke to make his point.

And if you are gonna post this video, you should at leaast post his response to people making a big deal over it.

"I was not being literal. During a discussion about presidential rhetoric, I was comparing Ronald Reagan's patriotic appeals with Obama's attempt to transcend parochialism."

What he's saying is that Obama isn't like Reagan in that he's only looking after America; Obama's looking at working with everyone. He's realizing that America isn't the only country on the map and--shock of shocks!--we might maybe just need to work with different countries and maybe not be looked at as assholes that invade other countries for no reason.

It's also nice to see Sean Hannity's "fair & balanced" take on this matter. As usual, Hannity's head is up his ass and he's making smart, decent Republicans look bad. Keep up the good work, Sean!

By the way,if it was a joke then why did Chris Matthews, who was doing the interview, say "yeah" agreeing with the sentimate?

Of couse this is the same guy who said that a Obama speech "gave me a special feeling running up my leg"

Stupid statment made by Thomas, stupid agrement by Matthews, lame attempt at covering his ass by all of you left wingers.Your better than that.

Thanks for bit of context, John; I don't tend to read the ForF's so I missed it.

Cool Scott, sorry for calling you Scooty, typo. If I hadn't been part of the conversation,I would probably thought it was pretty random too.

Hey John,

Nice double standard, eh?

When I say Palin said stuff like "I can see Russia from my house," you say I'm plain wrong b/c it's not Palin. It didn't matter to you then that essentially, the concept was the same.

Now suddenly, he said what he said and intent doesn't matter?

Typical.

John,

Also, I did not "deny" liberals referred to Obama as god. I simply said I don't hear liberals calling Obama god, and that the "messiah" quip was coming from the right.

To deny would be if I knew and then said no, it didn't happen.

And why don't you tell the whole story, John? Once you said Chris Matthews said that, what did I say?

What did I say, John?

Tell the whole damn story. Don't cherry pick shit like conservatives typically do.

Let me borrow your catch phrase: come on, you're better than this. Aren't you?

John illustrates the fundamental reason why Republicans (and there WTF-ideology) should stay away from positions of power. Unless you want to bring about our exctiniction, you would vote for someone with a functional brain.

The irony of course is you complain about "fair and balanced," yet still haven't posted my comment calling you out as simply cutting and pasting from Newsbusters. Maybe if I act conservative enough like John...

The writers of the articles don't approve the comments, the site editors do.

Crow I guess the difference is that I DIRECTLY quoted Evan Thomas from newsweek were you quoted a comedian. That being said the reference she made to the Diomede islands would be lost on people who are not familiar with Alaska, and sort of a reach to say the least. She did not comunicate that well(shocking to you)

There I gave a little.Matthews agreeing still makes him a knob.Late.

So danman's attempt at speaking English gets posted, but my commenting on the nature of this column doesn't?

Guess you have to be a conservative to be recognized here from now on.

@John: Matthews isn't agreeing with the idea that Obama is god. He's agreeing with the idea that Obama is looking at things from a non-isolationist point of view.

He's agreeing with the analogy's point, not the literal contest. It's pretty clear on both fronts.

Yes Gary, only "Conservatives" get their comments posted :::::rolls eyes:::::

I disagree with Thomas. Obama is not like a God, he is God. Merely using a simile is blasphemous. BOW DOWN, GOP SINNERS.

John,

>>There I gave a little.

Frankly, I thought you were a bigger person than this. I expected more from you. My mistake.

By the way, in a previous strain, you mentioned that Obama has quadrupled our deficit.

I assume you know that part of the reason Obama's budget deficit is expected to be $1.2 trillion is because he actually put the Iraq war costs ON the budget.

You know, those $400 billion that Bush just conveniently removed from the budget, because you know, $400 billion in spending isn't really spending...
