Creator interviews, Ultimate Seven?!? & of course more on Waid/Wieringo & FF.
Welcome again Marvel fans. It’s the Friday report. A good amount of different news from different fronts.
KARL BOLLERS
Sure, most Marvel comics fans have an idea of who Emma Frost is, but just how did the White Queen become that women X-fans know and love? What made Emma the White Queen? What made her go with the Hellfire Club? Her past may be a mystery but writer Karl Bollers and artist Randy Green are trying to unravel the secrets monthly in the EMMA FROST series. Bollers is also writing the adventures of everyone’s favorite hedgehog, Sonic for Archie Comics.
This writer is pretty good. The Emma Frost series unlike a few other TSUNAMI titles is doing pretty well. It could be just that it can also be classified an X-Title. Many fans do like Emma Frost and she is one damn hot X-Woman. I actually do like this series and the idea behind it. I think many other fans feel the same. It’s a great series and unlike a few other TSUNAMI titles it should do pretty well. I just hope some of the other Tsunami titles get back to selling too.
ULTIMATE SIX
It's one of those things that may have slipped right by you. In December's Marvel solicitations, ULTIMATE SIX changed from (of 6) to (of 7), increasing the issue count of the miniseries by Brian Bendis and Trevor Hairsine by one. Newsarama caught up with Bendis and assistant editor Nick Lowe for the lowdown
This is rather interesting. I actually think it’s smart. The series should be done right and being 7 issues might help it in being done right. I know that this series is one the fans can’t wait for. I just hope it’s not disappointing.
ADI GRANOV
Adi Granov is still a new face in the comics industry, but the artist made heads turn with his work on Dreamwave's NecroWar series and most recently, the cover to Iron Man #75. The thing about his work though - no pencils were harmed in the making of the art - it's all computer, baby
Notice something missing from Diamond PREVIEWS lately? Could it be the #1 publisher? Marvel created a stir recently when they decided to create its own separate Marvel Previews edition. While providing readers with lots of extras such as the entire first sold out issue of Mystique, the publication has still created controversy among retailers and some readers because of the price increase. Marvel's Marketing Communications Manager Mike Doran, explained why the new Marvel Previews is what's best for readers and The House.
Writer Mark Waid and artist Mike Wieringo are set to return as the regular creative team of Marvel Comic’s Fantastic Four, according to a post entitled "Back In The Saddle Again" Wieringo made on his official Web site on Thursday morning.
"And they say you can't go home again.
Well, I'm VERY happy to be able to announce that I'm going to be BACK as the regular penciler on FANTASTIC FOUR as of issue #509-- working with my buddy Mark Waid. That's right, we're back as the creative team of the World's Greatest Comic Magazine. Well, Mark will have never really have left in the first place, but you get my drift.
I'm not going to speculate on the reasons why things have turned out the way they have. It's been a very strange (almost) four months since the whole "Mark Waid firing" incident-- but all I CAN say is that I'm very glad that things have turned out the way they have. I'm back working on one of the greatest books I've every worked on, with one of the greatest writers in comics. And working for Tom Brevoort-- one of the finest, best editors in this business. So, at the end of the day, things are back to being the way they were-- only better. And that's just fine with me.
I'm ready to get back to work!
Mike”
Now that’s what I call service. We ask for it (or rather bitch and complain about it for over 4 months) and now we have. Arguably the best creative team on the FF this decade (give or take) is coming back to the title. And now I won’t have to leave. – Daron
Well that’s it for this week folks. Sorry it’s a little shorter than usual, but Jim had an emergency he had to take care of so Ben and I (that’s Daron………The Dark Overlord for those of you not paying attention) filled in. And just to wet your appetites we have some new stuff headed your way in the coming weeks, but I’m not telling…so stick around. From all of us here, have a great week everyone.
