Romney: "I Like Being Able To Fire People"
Posted by Ashish on 01.09.2012

The next two weeks will serve to finally test Mitt Romney and how ready he is for what is coming in the general election. Newt Gingrich has gone all in on the Bain attacks, continuing to portray Romney as a guy who bought companies, juiced them, and laid off employees, all so he could pocket millions and millions of dollars.

Meanwhile, Jon Huntsman is attacking Romney for his debate moment where Romney criticized him for working as the Obama administration's ambassador to China when asked to do so by the President. Huntsman is using this to portray Romney as someone who is opportunistic and puts politics and party above all else. Huntsman even compared Romney to John Kerry, suggesting his history of flip-flops will lead to the same result Kerry had in 2004 when he went up against George W. Bush.

Even Rick Perry got in on the action, saying that the only time Romney has ever worried about pink slips is the fear of running out of them due to how many jobs he was killing while at Bain.

Romney didn't help himself today by unleashing this gem of a line: "I like being able to fire people who provide services to me." To be fair, he was talking about insurance companies and being able to drop them if you're a policy holder, but it's a line that will get used non-stop for the rest of the primary and in the general election.

I realize this is your website, and you have every right to post what you want, but can I ask a question: What are the three biggest things Obama has done in the past four years that allows for him to get your vote?

Mitt Romney:
Your next President of The United States come 2013.
Simple as that.

As much of a bungler as Obama is, he has done quite a bit for the student loan mess. It might even be possible to avoid an economic meltdown for the bubble bursting on it.

But that's all I've got. He did one thing though, gotta give him credit. Even that wasn't perfect but meh.

I realize you're simply a troll who uses Ashish's site to pass the time between replays of Robot Chicken, but what are the three biggest things Ashish has done that allows you to assume he has/will vote for Obama?

So wait. Romney is going to be the NEXT President of the United States in 2013? So, something is going to happen in 2013 that will allow him to lockup the 2016 election? That is a pretty bold claim!

1) Bin Laden is dead
2) Our soldiers are home from Iraq
3) Prevented another depression
4) Ended "don't ask, don't tell"
5) Healthcare reform
6) Restored our reputation in the world
7) Cut taxes

If you think the Republican John Kerry is going to beat Obama with soundbites like "I like to fire people" then you're an even bigger idiot than I took you for given the moronic question you asked.

So are you voting for the tea party conservative, Reagan republican, Mitt Romney...or the liberal, socialist, Mitt Romney?

Which one will be president?

Posted By: Guest#0304 (Guest)  on January 09, 2012 at 11:36 PM

Depends on what you want. I'd say Obama has earned my vote by:

Killing Bin Laden

preventing another Great Depression

repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell,

passing a health care law that will eventually lead to more people having regular access to doctors beyond the emergency room.

Finally getting our troops out of Iraq.

And mostly because I don't view the poor as a problem. After what I've heard said about those in poverty by the conservatives in the last 3 years will probably keep me from ever voting Republican.

You asked for three reasons to vote for Obama, I gave six.

1) Ended the war in Iraq.

2) Stabilized our economy to the point where we are now seeing a decrease in the unemployment rate.

3) Took out a number of terrorist leaders.

4) Passed a health care initiative that has greatly benefited those negatively impacted by the recession.

5) Fought for unemployment benefits, in general for the well-being of the middle and lower classes.

6) He isn't making asinine claims like trying to reverse Roe v. Wade, making sodomy illegal, or any number of wackjob comments made by the GOP/tea party movement.

7) He is consistent in his policies and his actions, unlike the Romney's of the world who say whatever is convenient to get ahead.

Should I keep going? Or have I satisfied your blatant trolling?

You do realize the realize that whoever wins the election actually becomes President in 2013 right? Not saying I agree with the original poster who said it will be Romney, but in your attempts to be a smart-ass, you're actually the one who looks like an idiot. Thanks for playing though.

1. Presided over the month of December when many stores add seasonal workers. Magically, more jobs are created (for a month or so.) Also, more long-term unemployed are dropped off the rolls, no longer counting toward the unemployment percentage and creating a false drop.

2. Avoided a depression...that one is just to hilarious to even bother to counter.

3. He did let those Seals kill Bin Laden. Kudos on that one. Too bad he let our enemies get their hands on a Stealth.

4. Sent the troops home from Iraq, only three years later than promised! Oh, right, election coming up.

I love conservacranks trotting out the 'They're only holiday jobs' line. The jobless numbers are seasonally adjusted you idiots. And companies are reporting adding jobs, not just people dropping out of the job market. Try getting some accurate info and not just regurgitating what your snake oil salesmen masters Hannity Beck and Limbaugh are feeding you.

In context, there was actually nothing wrong, and a lot of commentators on both sides of the aisle have admitted that because he was talking about healthcare providers at the time.

HOWEVER, and even Romney himself knew this the moment he said it...

The biggest criticism of Romney at the moment, beyond his flip flops, is his work at Bain Capital and leveraged buyouts: borrow money to buy a company cheap, close the company, fire the staff, make big money selling the capital that the company owned. Doesn't matter if the company was doing well at the time if their capital in the company is enough to turn a healthy short term profit

So when he says "I like firing people", in context he may well have meant just his health provider, but to anybody listening it means he likes firing people, and he's made his billions through this same heartless process.

This message posted before your message seems to be adequately nasty. The point was a fair one, but it could certainly be delivered in a better tone.
