US Marines Investigating Video of Soldiers Urinating on Dead Bodies

The video popped up online today...
The Marine Corps is investigating a video that seems to show Marines urinating on several dead bodies. The video, which appeared on various websites this morning, shows four male Marines urinating on what are said to be dead Taliban members. In the video you can hear the men saying things like "Have a great day, buddy," and "Golden like a shower."
The caption for the video reads, "scout sniper team 4 with 3rd battalion 2nd marines out of camp lejeune peeing on dead talibans."
TMZ reports that according to USMC Media Officer Captain Kendra Hardesty, "While we have not yet verified the origin or authenticity of this video, the actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps."
She added, "This matter will be fully investigated and those responsible will be held accountable for their actions."

Well that's not good.
I can only imagine how much shit like that went on back in the WWII era, but with cameras and video EVERYWHERE now, you are bound to get caught.
That being said, we are supposed to be better than that, so I hope these asshats pay a steep price.

The military votes for the Right because ... they are the ones who fund the military, unlike those peacenik hippie left-wing bastards that would prefer to have them wander around banging tambourines and handing out flowers to insurgents instead of killing the non-white people we don't like at the present time.
Soldiers are just like us .. with some noble goals, but the same petty issues we all have, and if pushed over the brink, they'll react. My cousin served in Iraq and he hated Bush .. mostly because he'd just finished a double shift and couldn't get lunch, because the big shots were all in the mess area .. and he didn't have the rank to get in. He's held that grudge to this day.
Anyway, its all self-preservation. Would you vote for prohibition if you worked in a liquor store or brewery?

I've got no respect for the Taliban whatsoever, but people defending these guys need to think long and hard about what they did. Like it or not, this will be a PR disaster in Afghanistan. Sorry to pop your bubble, but it's not about what the Taliban thinks when they see this. It's about what the rest of the world thinks when they see marines desecrating dead bodies. They may be "the enemy", but if you have no respect for the dead, regardless of who they were, it says a lot about why people "hate" America.

Same here, I served as an officer in the Navy. It was the greatest experience of my life and you never forget. The Marines are just a subdivision of the Navy, we use them because we're sailors and only our SEAL teams really do land operations usually.
But regardless, the principles in the Navy also apply to the Marines. That's not conduct befitting a member of the armed forces. Doing things like this also puts the rest of us at risk.
I know everyone thinks the military is like COD or whatever other video game they played and think they're hardcore from. That's not how it is at all, there's a code and a method of behaving and everyone takes it really seriously...at least everyone in my unit and everyone ranked above me that I've ever known.
These dopes are going to get punished and made an example of.

Far be it from me to judge the Marines given what they presumably go through. The guy who filmed it? He's a dumb bastard.
Of course, my preference would be for us to take the billions -- AND BILLIONS -- of the people's money that we are giving to corrupt tribal lords in Afghanistan and Pakistan and spend it on tightening up our borders with an army of nano-bots and spider-shaped killing machines.

I fully endorse what these guys did for the sole reason that it reminded America for the first time in months that we're still at war in Afghanistan.
As for the fact that this draws headlines while daily carnage does not, that's a failing of everyone from the media to elected officials to the general public for choosing to ignore what bums them out and being desensitized to violence against non-Americans (the majority of casualties are civilians).

Oh, please. 1) Officers are completely different breed than enlisted, especially those of us who are inside a FOB 2 days of the week. 2) Yeas, and because of the LoLaW we can’t shot until we get shot at, have to provide aid to a surrendering insurgent, even if he just killed someone and is only doing so because he’s out of bullets, and other shit that those in a higher up position think they know makes effective war fighting.
