UPDATED: Romney Leads Comfortably In SC, Opens Up Big Lead Nationally
Posted by Ashish on 01.13.2012
Latest numbers out of SC...
UPDATED:Public Policy Polling also has new SC numbers showing similar results -- Romney at 29%, Gingrich at 24%, Paul at 16%, and Santorum at 14%. ARG also has SC numbers showing Romney at 29%, Gingrich at 25%, and Paul at 20%.
ORIGINAL: Mitt Romney holds a 28% to 21% lead over Newt Gingrich in South Carolina, according to the latest Rasmussen poll. Rick Santorum and Ron Paul are tied for third at 16%.
Nationally, CNN has Romney opening up a big lead, 34% to 18% over Gingrich. Santorum and Paul are each at 15%.
The polls don't appear to be showing a lot of movement, other than a slight slide for Santorum. The Bain attacks against Romney have not worked thus far, a result I predicted a few days ago. Attacking Romney from the left on free markets is a recipe for disaster as it will just rally the conservative community to his defense, which is what has happened. Gingrich himself is starting to distance himself from the attacks. Expect to see the Bain attacks again soon though when the general election starts. It will be much more effective in that environment as the message will resonate more with Democrats and Independents than primary Republicans.

It is frustrating, isnt it? To think that, despite the fact the Obama administration has demonstrated the same sort of corrupt behavior as all the rest, that he is STILL going to get re-elected?
Shame the Republicans won't nominate Ron Paul, they could regain the White House.

People "hate" Ron Paul 'cause his foreign policy platform is crazy. Most of his views I like quite a lot. But I don't care if I agree 100% with every single one of your views apart from foreign policy--if your foreign policy plan is "lets become more hands off than Switzerland" then you are an idiot. The US is a world superpower involved in all facets of dealings all over the world, and we also have a whole lot of enemies. We pull everybody back and shut our eyes to the outside world, and watch how fast our empire crumbles.

But I don't hate Ron Paul. Just don't want him as my president.

Lets see, what ended the Roman empire? The Brtish empire? Overexpansion.
If we continue to spend more than the the other top 10 nations COMBINED, watch how fast our empire crumbles.
If we continue to devote treasure to procuring oil, a finite resource, watch how fast our empire crumbles.

Mitt Romney is not going to be able to draw independents like Ron Paul would. Romney will win the nomination, and lose dismally to Barack Obama. End scene.

God I love RP people trying to act like they know WTF they are talking about, when in reality they have NO FUCKING CLUE.
Really over expansion ended the British empire? Where did you learn that...from a book Ron Paul wrote? Idiot
His entire foreign policy is based on the idea of us staying on the sidelines and not doing a dam thing...EVER. Yeah ya know what maybe in 1815 that might have worked, not in 2012.
If you are so against oil why would you be for RP? He wants to extend drilling for more oil AND wants to make it feasible to use coal again (another finite resource

Your post offers NOTHING to refute my assertions, and yet I'M the stupid one?
I'll tell you whats stupid, spending a TRILLION dollars on a war in Iraq. And for what exactly? To liberate them?
Well guess what! When elections were held in Iraq in 2005 -- free elections mind you -- the Shite population that we liberated in Iraq voted almost exclusively for Dawa and The Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq -- parties sponsored by Iran.
In other words, Iraq is now one of Iran's closest allies! Good thing we spent that trillion dollars! That couldn't have gone to anything more useful, could it?
So sure, why don't we go and spend trillion fighting a war in Iran?
It isn't like they could potentially cripple the global economic recovery by shutting down the Straits of Hormuz.
It isnt like Iran has missile systems capable of striking anywhere in the Middle East
It isnt like Iran could use Hezbollah to attrack Israel. And it isn't like that conflict could draw Syria and Hammas into the mix.
All the while we have to do our best to keep Israel out of the conflict, like we did in the Gulf wars. Otherwise, we've got a real shit-storm on our hands.
And who pays for all of this? The direct answer is China. They sit back and watch us bankrupt ourselves into oblivion.
But you're right, I'm a Ron Paul supporter, so I'm a dangerous idiot. Maybe I should just go jerk-off to 'Top Gun' and wait for the media to goad us into the next war.

No, his foreign policy is based on the Constitution. Not to mention, wars cost money. We continue borrowing money from China to give foreign welfare and fight these unconstitutional wars. And you wonder why there's trillions of dollars of debt today? It's not just domestic entitlements.

Again WTF are you talking about?
Iran and Iraq are not allied in the least. The Iraq government is scared to death Iran is going to destabilize their country you fool. The political party in Iraq WAS NOT sponsored by Iran.
There is a HUGE difference when a country tried to get influence in another and outright sponsoring a political party like a Manchurian candidate, take off the tin foil hats please.
If you were the original idiot who posted about over-expansion and the British Empire, well you are factually WRONG. Go read a history book, no need to explain it here...not enough time.
Now if you want to argue about the defense budget...well guess what RP peeps...that isn't some "new" idea. People have been talking about that for the last 10 years. Closing bases, spending less, that doesn't make your guy some "prophet".
Oh and I have to here Michael come on here and say the RP views are based on the constitution one more time I just may be sick.
Let's live in Ron Paul's world for a moment a world in which all 50 states have their own "rights" and the federal government cannot tell any state what to do.
So we will have 50 states, with 50 different laws. Some states will be ghost towns, others overwhelmed.
We would have NO federal Gun Laws, NO regulation of Business, NO federal spending for social safety nets (Unemployment, SS, medicare). It would be a dog eat dog world where businesses would run even more rampant than they already do...but hey, at least we wouldn't have any military bases in Italy right?
Also I guess with a Ron Paul run America the constitution would NEVER be amended for ANYTHING EVER. because according to Ron Paul it is the "perfect" document, so why would we ever need to change it for anything? I guess all the Amendments we have had since 1776 aren't good...
Get a grip folks

I'm not "against oil". I am against America spending billions of dollars -- under a false premise -- to secure additional oil. That is the equivalent of placing a band-aid on a broken arm.
Maybe if we didn't spend all that money on war, we could invest in cancer research, repairing our infrastructure, or developing an alternate source of energy?
