Poll: The More Voters Learn About Romney, The Less They Like Him
Posted by Ashish on 02.06.2012

The new ABC/Washington Post poll out today has President Obama up over Mitt Romney, 51% to 45%. Perhaps the most interesting number from within the poll:
By better than 2 to 1, Americans say the more they learn about Romney, the less they like him. Even among Republicans, as many offer negative as positive assessments of him on this question. Judgments about former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who denounced Romney on Saturday night in Nevada, are about 3 to 1 negative.

Romney has a lot of work to do...

ABC/Washington Post?

Well at least it's a nonbiased poll.

Let's see the FOX poll asking their viewers if they like Obama after getting to know him.

Or better yet, let's actually have ABC and WASHPOST report on the actual president...Obama has never had to show his income tax statements.

Hell, nobody has a clue where Obama got all his money except that it was from undesirables and Chicago shakedown tactics.

Even then 45 percent of the ABC and WASHPOST audience like Romney over Obama?

That's bad news for Obama.

Let's be real.... Fox News doesn't even like this guy. They've spent just as much time calling him "Obama-Lite" as anyone else.

What's funny is how much of this noise is coming from the extreme right as well... the Extreme Born Again Pro Life Anti Immigrant Earth Was Created In Six Days contingent H-A-T-E this guy.

I guess they are angry at the realization of how much in the minority their views actually are in this country....

They'll probably go down swinging... and rip the GOP apart in the process. Sad that we have allowed them to hijack the party....

Romney is going to lose, but will still do better than Newt (hypothetically)

The GOP is toast, and won't see the White House at least until 2016 and delusional tea baggers like Grant refuse to admit that

In fairness almost any politician becomes less popular the more you know about them.

An unknown politician lets you project your beliefs onto him, since you aren't as familiar with him.

Once you know a politician, there is always going to be something that you disagree with that might make you less likely to like him.

"Even then 45 percent of the ABC and WASHPOST audience like Romney over Obama?"

What?

The Republican party really needs to get away from their percepted view and start coming up with something new to say-people will just shy away more and more and while I don't disagree or agree with them-it would be a voice that is shut out. You never want to shut out the minority.

If you read the questions of this poll, its basically an anti-Romney push poll. I expected better of a reputable news source like ABC/WaPo. They ask five negatively slanted "Did You Know?" questions about Romney BEFORE asking who the voter would prefer between Romney and Obama. They don't ask any about President Obama.

Always good to see Grant lose his mind. Dude, you're worried about where Obama got his money? He sold a best selling book. But I guess you're talking about his campaign finances...

It's called Wall Street. Same place that Romney is getting his money from.

Gingrich, he's getting his money from Las Vegas, so really, politicians are either in bed with itinerant gamblers... or they're taking money from Las Vegas!

As for "Obama has never had to show his income tax statements.", learn to Google. Really, it's not that hard.

Look, Romney is cool and all and Imma let you finish the primary, but I just want to tell you that Obama is gonna end up being re-elected president.

Seriously, folks, do you people honestly believe Romney is going to win? I highly doubt it and if he does, then I will eat my hat, take a slice of crow cake, and scarf down a piece of humble pie. I'm not above in admitting that I'm wrong when I happen to be buuuut...considering this? Say hello to a 2012-2016 Obama Administration for me ;)

Oh and let's address something here, shall we? For all of you who argue that gay marriage "violates the sanctity of marriage" allow me to point something out:

Sanctity - the state of being holy, *sacred*, or saintly.

Sacred - (1)Connected with God(or the gods) or to a *religious* purpose. (2) *Religious* rather than secular. (3) Embodying the laws or doctrines of a *religion*. (4) Regarded with great respect and reverence by a particular *religion*, group or individual.

Now the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution reads:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of *RELIGION*

So not only is the anti-gay marriage argument invalid, it's unconstitutional. We all know Romney is going to be an opponent against it so...yeah. Have fun with an unconstitutional president, if he wins anyway.

Suckers!

I wouldn't be so fast to draw that conclusion. Abortion and gay-marriage would both probably be voted down if proposals were put on a ballot.

"It's called Wall Street. Same place that Romney is getting his money from"

Says an Obama supporter, but wait, Obama got more from wall street in 2008 than any presidential candidate in history and there isn't a close 2nd. Obama is set to spend over a BILLION dollars on his re-election. In other words, democrats, don't bitch to me about money.

So, answering Grant's rhetoricals automatically makes this guy an Obama supporter?

And just because Obama has a (D) infront of his name, liberals are supposed to be okay with the fact that the President -- like most any other politician -- has been bought out by Wall-Street?

Maybe when you're done playing "red vs blue" in your sandbox, you can have an adult conservation about politics?

ok let's see right now it's february, so let's just wait until we get closer to the election before we pay attention too the polls, because i believe in 2008 when obama and hillary were beating each other up, i'm pretty sure obama had the same negatives, so really take these polls with a grain of salt

So let's see, you didn't refute the statement that was made, just went on a tangent about something unrelated.

Sounds about right.

The statement made was that Romney made his money (IE personal money) from wall st.

The same cannot be said for Obama.

And if you think Obama is the only one get big donations your head is up your ass farther than you realize.

As opposed to Obama, who we didn't get to learn ANYTHING about before he was elected and began trying to gut the country.

Obama doesn't get personal money from fat cats on wall street? HOW do you think he can spend a billion dollars on a re-election campaign? Hell, I didn't even say there is anything wrong with it. As far as I'm concerned it's all fair game. I certainly didn't say anything about wall street money not going to republicans. All I'm saying is don't hold it against one candidate or another, especially when Obama, to date, has raised more money than Romney, and already spent more money than him. There's nothing wrong with that, just call it the way it is. As for this poll, my answer is, this is surprising to any of you? Most people started to dislike Obama when they knew him better too, as with any politician. Though, most people didn't know about Obama until AFTER he had been elected, whereas there is very little we don't know about Romney right now during the primaries.

Posted By: gwpbrian (Guest)  on February 07, 2012 at 11:26 AM

The point is, why is this poll even news? Has Ashish quantified it and compared it to every other presidential candidate in history in February of an election year? What did this poll look like in 2000 when Bush and Gore were running? How about 1996 when Bob Dole was running. 1992 with Clinton?

Seems like this is nothing new, yet this is "not a good sign."

Posted By: gwpbrian (Guest)  on February 07, 2012 at 11:32 AM

I think President Romney will turn things around.
Yeah, I'll be the first to call him that, everyone else will follow suit next year.
Better to be a leader and not a follower, which is what I just did...
Bye Bye Obama

So what stopped you from looking the guy up online? A vast left-wing conspiracy?

And you may not like the man, or his policies, but to imply that any President would deliberately try to "gut" the country is shallow and pedantic.

Why would he do such a thing? Oh right, because liberals hate America?
