The Rivett Report 03.05.07
Posted by Joe Rivett on 03.05.2007

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to another fine edition of the Rivett Report.

Election 2008 News - Will the most liberal and conservative politicians please stand up?

Every week I am going to strive to put something out about the 2008 election. I was scoping the National Journal's website and it released its vote ratings for 2006. The most liberal senator running is Barack Obama while the most conservative senator assuming he runs is Chuck Hagel. Despite his criticism of the war, his record is very conservative. Here is a review of the candidates' voting records:

National Journal's congressional vote ratings for 2006 demonstrate that plenty of ammunition will be available during the presidential campaign. The computer-assisted ratings, which NJ has prepared annually since 1981, used 82 key votes in the Senate and 95 in the House to measure the members of each chamber on an ideological scale.

Of the four Democratic senators who are running for president, Barack Obama of Illinois had the most liberal score in 2006. He was followed by Sens. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut, Joseph Biden of Delaware, and Clinton. In fact, Clinton was markedly more moderate in 2006 than Obama, who was the 10th-most-liberal senator. The sole Democratic presidential candidate from the House, Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, had a strongly liberal voting record.

Among the three Republican senators who have formally declared their candidacy for the White House, or are seriously considering a run, the most conservative in 2006 was Chuck Hagel of Nebraska. Close behind him was Sam Brownback of Kansas, while McCain was more moderate. Of the three House Republicans who have launched long-shot presidential bids, Duncan Hunter of California was the most conservative, followed by Tom Tancredo of Colorado and the maverick Ron Paul of Texas.

This is why I am bothered that conservatives fear the hell out of Hillary when Obama has a far more liberal voting record. I know conservatives think she is pretending to be a centrist but her husband was not afraid to get the country involved in wars, balance the budget, and reform welfare. My message to Sean Hannity is that he should stop scaring people from voting for Hillary because Obama will do more to inflame conservatives.

For you libertarians reading the column, Ron Paul was the Libertarian candidate in the 1988 presidential election. Here is what he plans to emphasize in his 2008 bid:

Everything I've talked about for 20 years! I think the biggest thing for Republican primary voters is that most Republicans are turned off right now. They've had a beating and are reassessing their values. They have to decide what they believe in. The Republican Party has become about big government conservatism, and Republicans need to hear the message they used to hear: that conservatives are supposed to be for small government.

This week's Individualist will highlight some of Ron Paul's positions.

Is John Edwards Gay?

This week at a Conservative conference, the heterosexual but still not married Ann Coulter had this to say about John Edwards:

"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot–so….'"

Look, I have no problem with the word faggot, personally, I prefer the word fag as it is easier to say. However, if you are going to use it, you should explain what you mean by it. Yes, I called John McCain a pussy for his lack of response to Bush's lies in 2000 but then I explained why I thought he was. Does that really mean he is a pussy? Of course not. It is an expression and so is faggot, just explain what you mean because last time I checked, John Edwards is married.

In addition, I hold conservatives to higher standards when they curse or use words that aren't very nice. When you go on television and complain about standards and indecency, and then you use the term faggot which is nationally broadcasted on C-Span, you are a hypocrite.

Lastly, why did the guy on Grey's Anatomy go to rehab for saying faggot? Was this a drug rehab or a sensitivity training mission?

Speaking of Conservative Chicks

Michelle Malkin had this to say when he was filling in for Bill O…

Malkin: I have to tell you. In general, I'm skeptical of anything that has "Bill of Rights"—tacked on to it."

Headlines

Rudy Wraps Himself in Reagan – Dick Polman, American Debate

Speaking of faggo…. I'm just kidding. I have noticed that Ronald Reagan has replaced Jesus for the favorite Republican political philosopher for 2008.

If Iran Gets the Bomb – Caroline Glick, Jerusalem Post

If Iran gets the bomb, then the US can't invade Iran. See North Korea…

Isn't that the Wolfpack?

Most Support US Guarantee of Health Care - New York Times

A majority of Americans say the federal government should guarantee health insurance to every American, especially children, and are willing to pay higher taxes to do it, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll. I guess America really does have a liberal bias. In edition, 62% of Americans trust the Democrats with health care while 24% are satisfied with Bush's handle on health care.

A Good Column To Read

I enjoyed Mark Radulich's column on the Basic Income Guarantee. It was one of those columns where you don't know if you agree but you learned something.

See y'all next week!
