Obama Takes Lead In NH As McCain Keeps Surging
Posted by Ashish on 12.24.2007

With Iowa just days away and New Hampshire to follow, things are really heating up in the Democratic and Republican races.

The Boston Globe has a new poll out that shows New Hampshire is totally up for grabs.

On the Democratic side, Barack Obama has now pulled slightly ahead of Hillary Clinton, 30% to 28%, with John Edwards at 14%. The last two NH polls have shown Obama and Clinton in a statistical tie. The point? NH is not a Hillary Clinton firewall which is what her campaign was hoping for. Whoever wins Iowa is likely going to win NH (and South Carolina). The pressure really is on Obama here. He really has to win Iowa if he wants a legitimate shot at winning NH and SC and riding the momentum to victory nationally. Hillary can survive a loss to John Edwards in Iowa but a loss to Obama in Iowa would really hurt her. If Edwards wins in Iowa and Obama comes in second, things could get really interesting as that would leave NH and SC wide open while still crushing Hillary's perception as a frontrunner. Obama has also recently gotten more aggressive towards Edwards, knowing that he is now essentially competing against him for the non-Hillary vote.

Meanwhile, on the Republican side, the John McCain surge is very real. The poll now has Mitt Romney holding on to a slight lead over McCain in NH, 28% to 25%, with Rudy Giuliani at 14% and Mike Huckabee at 10%. Mitt Romney's once huge lead in NH is gone and he could now easily lose Iowa to Huckabee and NH to McCain. McCain's entire campaign depends on winning in NH. If Romney wins Iowa, he will probably hold on to NH and his entire strategy (winning Iowa and NH and using that as a national springboard) will be salvaged. Of course, the other thing to remember now is that there is no Republican frontrunner. Hillary is still the frontrunner nationally on the Democratic side, but Romney, Giuliani, McCain, and Huckabee are ALL close in national polls. This means that the nomination could be a mystery even well past Super Tuesday (February 5th). We could see Huckabee or Romney win Iowa, Romney or McCain win NH, and Giuliani still looks strong in the later states like Florida.

So what's the point? No matter what these polls show, anything can happen at this point. On the Democratic side, Iowa is basically a three-way tie and NH and SC are a two-way tie. The Republican side is a total crap shoot with four people being very much into it. It's going to come down to organization in the early states now, as with Christmas and New Year's Eve/Day upon us, there won't be much major news coming out that will really damage or help anyone.

Iowa is on January 3rd!

Michelle Obama’s desire to get “some corporate experience” devastated the town of LaJunta Colorado. Hispanic union workers like Santiago Vasquez lose jobs because Michelle Obama wants to improve efficiency? She defends layoffs telling Chicago Crains Business that her firm "hopes to expand and hire more workers, many minorities, once it boosts its efficiency.” Local reaction to the La Junta scandal:“Ms. Obama, vice-president for external affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals, says she was asked to join the board — five months after her husband took office — after putting out feelers indicating she'd like to get some corporate management experience.” As if working for a hospital that charges uninsured minorities 5.4 times as much for drugs as Whites with insurance isn’t enough cold hearted corporate experience. La Junta Mayor Don Rizzuto talks about dealing with a corporation like Bay Valley.A corporate press release. "The plan to close the La Junta plant and distribution center has been difficult because of its impact on employees, families and the community. The La Junta employees have demonstrated exceptional loyalty and dedication. Unfortunately, Bay Valley Foods has experienced…a significant increase in overhead costs, making it necessary…” Candi Miell editorial director of the La Junta Tribune-Democrat discusses the impact of 153 people losing their jobs. The lesson learned by the publisher of the Pueblo Chieftain—don’t “depend on outside big companies.”A proud Mayor pitches his town.And by the way, the Medical Center he talks about, they mark up their actual costs of drugs by 190%.

Sen. Obama sees no hypocrisy in his wife's post at a firm that does business with Wal-Mart Barack Obama made national headlines last month when he loudly enlisted in the campaign to get Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to treat its workers better. told members of a union-backed coalition that they have "a moral responsibility to stand up and fight" the big retailer. "The battle to engage Wal-Mart and force them to examine their own corporate values and what their policies and approaches are to their workers . . . is absolutely vital," the Associated Press quoted the U.S. senator as saying. Which raises a question — not about corporate values but about Mr. Obama's values. Specifically, while Mr. Obama bashes Wal-Mart, why does his wife, Michelle, make $45,000 a year serving on the board of a Chicago-area company that pays its executives a very hefty amount of money while laying off mostly minority workers in an economically deprived area, a company whose No. 1 customer is — you guessed it — Wal-Mart? In early 2005, Texas-based Dean Foods Co. spun off its processed-food subsidiary into an independent company, TreeHouse Foods Inc. Stock in Westchester-based TreeHouse began trading on June 15, 2005. Elected to its board of directors on June 6 of that year was Michelle Obama, who receives $30,000 a year plus $1,500 per board or committee meeting she attends. That totaled $45,000 in 2005, according to Mr. Obama's Senate ethics disclosure. Ms. Obama got 7,500 stock options this year, company filings show. At the current price of TreeHouse stock, she has a paper profit of about $60,000 on the options.

INTERESTING ARTICLE! THE GREAT DIVIDER OPRAHBAMA, although we ALL have the freedom to practice our own religious beliefs. Not all voters are black.
What Obama's Church Preaches, Erik Rush researches Hussein Obama's church, Trinity United Church of Christ. One could argue that this organization worships things African to a far greater degree than they do Christ,gives the impression of being separatist "church" in the same vein as do certain supremacist "white brethren" churches – or even Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam. Shocking? An overstatement? One can see for oneself on the Trinity United Church website, which is replete with confirmation of what I present here. An excerpt from their Mission Statement: "We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community. Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:
1. Commitment to God 2. Commitment to the Black Community 3. Commitment to the Black Family 4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education 5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence 6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic 7. Commitment to self-Discipline and Self-Respect 8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness" 9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community 10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions 11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System 12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System." Sound familiar? Of course it is, since it's identical to the 12-point list from theoretical white supremacist candidate's church;

So to sum up, Obama used the popular Wal Mart example of wokers not getting what they deserve for their labor. His wife works for a company affiliated with Wal Mart. Oooo, scandal! Sorry, but that couldn't be less relevant to me. As for his church, I see nothing there with a "kill the crackers" vibe, so again I'm not even slightly offended. He must be squeaky clean if you have to reach so far to smear him. Why not rip on him for offering cliches and slogans rather than concrete ideas? That's where my aggravation with him lies. Are these the things that should hold our attention when choosing leaders? It's almost like there's a competition to see who can be most petty and ridiculous in justifying their vote for or against someone. Could it just possibly be because we are being offered exactly ZERO worthy options? It will take all my will not to skip this one entirely, especially living in Illinois where my vote doesn't count.
