Latest Polls: Clinton Up In OH, Obama Up In WI & NC
Posted by Ashish on 02.12.2008

Hillary Clinton's camp finally got some good news today. A new SurveyUSA poll has Clinton up 56% to 39% in Ohio, a state that she hopes will serve as a firewall against the many Obama wins that are expected in February. The poll was taken after Obama's Saturday wins, so the lead seems to be solid. The main reason why Clinton is winning in Ohio is women. She is crushing Obama among women voters while she is losing slightly to Obama among men. The thing that remains to be seen is if the lead will hold once Obama actually starts campaigning there. There will be a roughly three week lead up to Ohio (and Texas) on March 4th so both Obama and Clinton will have plenty of time to hit the ground and campaign in a way that they basically haven't been able to do since Iowa.

Meanwhile, a new SurveyUSA poll of North Carolina (which doesn't vote until May) has Obama up 50% to 40%. This is the first poll of NC done this year, the first one that doesn't include state son John Edwards, and the first one to ever show Obama up.

And a new Public Policy poll has Obama now up in Wisconsin, 50% to 39%. This is the first poll ever to show Obama up in the state. Wisconsin will be the next big state following tonight's Potomac Primary. It's a state that Clinton could very well win.

If Obama hasn't started campaigning in the state yet, how is this a "solid" lead?

Lets wait to see what the polls say after he's had three weeks to campain there, drop print mailers and debate. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

When Obama campaigns in a state, the polls tighten up fast.

He has THREE weeks.

The only thing that matches the cynicism and Machiavellian nature of the plan to put team Billary back in the white house (or is it HillBilly now?) was Karl Rove’s plan to install Dubya. However, standing near a the leader doesn’t prove you can lead. And, unfortunately if you inherit the infrastructure of the dear leader, it’s hard for the people to evaluate what’s you and what’s the machine. Hillary could easily be as big a failure as Dubya who’s path to the presidency she would have more in common with than Bill’s. She might have the judgment necessary to be in command hidden in there but it’s impossible to measure — she hasn’t stood on her own for many decades. Thinking the machine can be president is the same flawed view that allowed Dubya to slip in.

Personal judgment is what counts - you can’t ride coattails to command. You either have it in yourself or you don’t. Clinton hasn’t shown it. Obama has. McCain has.

It’s either Obama08 or it’s McCain08 then Obama12.
