Crushing New Poll For Clinton: Obama Leads By 23 In NC
Posted by Ashish on 04.05.2008

After days of Pennsylvania polls showed Hillary Clinton crumbling in the state, a new Rasmussen poll of North Carolina has horrible news for her diminishing chances -- she is now behind 23% to Barack Obama, 56% to 33%. The stunner here is that just one month ago, Rasmussen's NC poll had Clinton not far behind in the state, trailing by 7%, 47% to 40%. The huge drop also gives more credibility to her huge drops in PA. Many saw those polls showing such a large drop and figured they couldn't be accurate, but not only has that drop now shown up in several PA polls, it is also starting to show up in NC. As I've stated before, Clinton cannot lose NC and still think she has a chance. She has to win PA, IN, and NC (and she has to win PA big, by 10+ points). That's the only way she has any sort of shot at justifying staying in the race. A loss in any of those three will finish off what is left of her campaign, and obviously a 20+ point loss in NC would be absolutely devastating.

Looking at the internals, Obama leads 86% to 9% among black voters while Clinton is holding on to a slight lead among whites, 47% to 38%. A month ago, Clinton led by 20 points among whites. Remember all the talk about how the Rev. Wright story would crush Obama's chances of winning over undecided white voters? It was all false. The Wright story hasn't impacted Obama at all, and there are signs that his acclaimed race speech may have actually resulted in a net positive from the story for him, as evident by national polls and state polls in PA and NC.

This drop further illustrates what I talked about in my article this morning -- that Clinton's money woes are catching up to her in PA and now we see the same effect happening in NC. We're likely to see the same thing in Indiana once the candidates start paying more attention to that state. Obama is flooding states with ads which he can afford because of the massive amounts of money he's raising and Clinton can't respond because despite her many public pleas for people to donate to her campaign, people aren't donating to her and she is basically out of money according to Newsweek. So she has to just take it. And what that does is it fuels media reports that she has no chance and is on her last legs and that in turn demoralizes her supporters, especially her softer supporters who start to accept that Clinton has no chance and begin to tell pollsters that they no longer plan to go vote because their vote for Clinton probably won't matter. It's a vicious cycle that usually ends all campaigns, and we're seeing it now sink its teeth into the Clinton campaign.

The end is near.

The dirty way in which the Clintons have run against Senator Obama means it's truly backfiring on her.

109 million dollars may very well buy the US Presidency. Hillary loaned herself $5 million of her own money, "a good investment," in her own words, to further her campaign when it was running out of money. Then, she asked blue-collar working class women to send her their hard earned dollars because she claims she identifies with their class position. The Clintons pay over $40,000 each year just to have their houses cleaned, more than what working class women earn working 40 hours a week over a year. Like coming sniper fire, Hillary won votes in Ohio, Texas, and elsewhere by lying to blue collar workers about NAFTA and about her wealth. We will find that Bill was paid millions of dollars just to give talks for over an hour each time by corporations whose lobbyists also give money to Hillary. Hillary is turning our republic into an oligarchic dynasty. Turn the page to save our democracy.

Wright isn't phasing Obama because the clips are a misrepresentation, and a lot of religious leaders are making that known. Trinity is a big wheel in religious and civil rights circles. I think O'Reilly, Hannity and company bit off more than they could chew.

I was one of the ppl saying Wright issue would hurt him...but not now...when it's just him and McCain. The Repubs will be bringing it up again, rest assured. And I still think it will hurt him with those independents that are (amazingly, to me) on the fence between McCain and Obama.

The Clinton's belief that they are the gods' gift to the Democratic party is stopping them from dropping out; that great sense of entitlement. They just cannot believe they are losing. It is hard for them to see the rejection of the people. It has been so hard for them that despite losing the primary, they think they can win the general election. Such DENIAL is hard to comprehend. Moreover, election and power is one of the only things that have kept them together. It is hard for Hillary to digest and absorb the blatant writing on the wall.Step Down!Sorry,STEP UP! It's OVER!!

These numbers mean nothing. Crushing? Nope. Racist? Yes. With over-sampling of African Americans, what do you expect?

Who listens to these polls any more except stupid people. They were wrong about New Hampshire, Super Tuesday, Texas and Ohio.

How about we let the voters vote and then count the votes. Like we used to do in America?

The voters will vote, sure. But not enough will vote for H Rodham Clinton and why should they? She has a run a campaign almost as good as that run by Giuliani. She thought she would be greeted in the streets with flowers and thanks. She wasn't. End. Of. Story.

Hillary is going around the Country and saying nasty things about Obama. It would be much more productive and useful for the Country if she articulates her plans. She is no more qualified to be President than Obama and McCain. Therefore, it is the policies and ability to implement them that is important (remember the fate of universal healthcare under Clinton). Clinton’s claim about being ready on day one or her ability to answer the 3AM call are utter nonsense. 3AM call may be on the suspicious whereabouts of Bill. Her claim that Obama is all about speech and she is all about solutions is also nonsense. All (including McCain’s) are just speeches and ideas until implemented. At least Obama’s is inspirational and enjoyable to listen. Clinton strategy is to kneecap (or worse) Obama. We hope that the Democrats and the Country will not stand for it. Frankly, Clintons had 8 years to implement their ideas. It is time for someone else.

Hillary gave a good speech about MLK. But, it all sounds hallow and political when one sees how viciously and unfairly she had attached Obama, perhaps the best example of implementation of MLK’s vision. She had used the repeatedly the race card (either as code words or overtly) and gender card (see Ellen’s show). Her negatives are too high because of her dishonesty and power hungry nature. One has to see where they got the $109 million income. Are some of them from questionable places and we need honesty and details? With that kind unhealthy wealth she cannot be the champions of common man.

It ironic that Hillary was busy complaining about Obama’s speeches, wile Bill was making millions making speeches. Obviously for someone speech was important for them to pay outrageous some of money ($51.85 million). Perhaps these were influence peddling rather than inspirational ideas.

At the rate Hillary's campaign is collapsing in PA, this thing might be over before we here even get to vote in North Carolina. The Obama support in the Tar Heel state is unbelievable. Here in the Triangle, I've never seen anything like it. Obama bumper stickers and yard signs everywhere. If PA doesn't knock her out, NC will.

It's time for a change!
