Gingrich Warns Of GOP Disaster In November

Newt says GOP needs to make big changes or face big losses...
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich doesn't seem to be very optimistic about his party's chances this November. He is calling on Republicans to seek "real change to avoid a real disaster" in the wake of another Democratic victory in a special election on Saturday.
"No Republicans should kid themselves. It's time to face up to a stark choice. Without change we could face a catastrophic election this fall. Without change the Republican Party in the House could revert to the permanent minority status it had from 1930 to 1994... It's time for real change to avoid a real disaster."
In a letter to House Republicans posted on www.newt.org, Gingrich urges House leaders to call an "emergency meeting" of House Republicans to address what he describes as a "catastrophic collapse of trust in Republicans."
This is more or less what most in Washington already think internally -- that unless some major thing happens to change the political landscape, the Republican party could have one of its worst elections in decades this fall.
