Final Superdelegate Tally for Friday: Obama - 8, Clinton - 1
Posted by Ashish on 05.09.2008

Obama finished Friday with a net gain of seven superdelegates -- Hawaii Rep. Mazie Hirono, New Jersey Rep. Donald Payne (who switched from Clinton to Obama), Oregon Rep. DeFazio, New Mexico's add-on Laurie Weahkee, South Carolina Democratic vice chair Wilber Lee Jeffcoat, Virginia DNC member Joe Johnson, California DNC member Ed Espinoza, and American Federation of Government Employees head John Gage.

Clinton finished the day with a net gain of one superdelegate. She added Texas Rep. Ciro Rodriguez and Pennsylvania Rep. Chris Carney, but lost Payne to Obama.

Obama has now taken the lead among superdelegates, according to ABC and the New York Times. Clinton led by roughly 100 superdelegates as recently as January. Her loss of the superdelegate lead is as symbolic a moment as there has been in this campaign of the degree of her fall from inevitability to the verge of withdrawal.
