Saturday Superdelegate Watch: Obama - 5, Clinton - (-)1
Posted by Ashish on 05.10.2008

Barack Obama scored five new superdelegates today in Utah add-on Kristi Cumming, Virgin Island superdelegates Kevin Rodriquez and Carole Burke, both of whom switched from Clinton to Obama, Arizona Rep. Harry Mitchell, and a add-on from Ohio. Clinton gained one new superdelegate in Massachusetts add-on Arthur Powell, but because she lost Rodriquez and Burke, her net gain for the day is negative one. Acccording to my count, this puts Obama at 274 superdelegates and Clinton at 271 superdelegates, giving him the lead for the first time ever according to my count.

Obama now has a 168 delegate lead, 1865 to 1697 for Clinton. He has picked up 19 new superdelegates since his win in North Carolina on Tuesday (four of which have switched from Clinton to Obama), while Clinton has picked up a net gain of one. That 18 delegate gain more than wipes out what Clinton will gain when she wins West Virginia on Tuesday.

And to add insult to injury, here is what Clinton supporter and former DNC chair Don Fowler said on Obama today: "It is perceived that he is the leader. The trickle is going to become an avalanche."
