Obama Crushing McCain Among Hispanics
Posted by Ashish on 06.06.2008

The people who knew politics kept saying throughout the primaries to not assume that the problems Obama had against Clinton would continue against McCain in the general election. Voting patterns in primaries and the general election CANNOT BE COMPARED. And they were right. Gallup has a new poll out that shows Obama getting 62% of the Hispanic vote while McCain gets just 29%. In the primaries against Clinton, Obama usually got around 30% of the Hispanic vote. Basically, Hispanics preferred Clinton to Obama, but strongly prefer Democrats to Republicans this year, so if Clinton isn't an option, they are defaulting to Obama and the Democrats.

This is what you'd expect when you take into account that in the 2006 elections, Republicans only got 30% of the Hispanic vote (Bush got something in the range of 40% of the Hispanic vote in 2004). Hispanics are leaning heavily Democratic this year, just as they did in 2006 (and 2004). The Republicans have nobody to blame for this but themselves, as they opted to alienate the nation's fastest growing voter block over the illegal immigration issue. This also helps explain why Bill Richardson isn't really being talked about as an Obama VP candidate. I thought Obama might need him to fix his Hispanic problem, but it seems as if he doesn't even have a Hispanic problem. The two frontrunners for Obama's VP slot at this point seem to be Kathleen Sebelius and Jim Webb.

Really hoping for Webb. The military cred he brings to the ticket is huge and is badly needed when going against a candidate with such a distingushed military career. Obviously, he's also from Virginia, which is shaping up to be an important battle ground state this year.

I think you're missing something significant about the hispanic vote - it isn't just about what percentage goes to who, its also about how many show up to vote. Richardson might well bring a record hispanic turnout to match Obama's likely record black turnout. And Richardson might turn that 60/30/10 into 80/15/5....

Jim,
Why don't you wake up and smell the coffee? Man you really gotta get off this MILITARY, MILITARY, MILITARY bullshit! This year we will not be voting for the militarists, the War Heroes, the hawks and the pre-emptive strikers like George W. Bush, Dick “the Dick” Cheney, John McBush, and Hillary Clinton (which latter supported Bush’s invasion of Iraq). Obama will not be depending on military credentials to appeal to the voters of our country. He will leave this to the Hawks like John McBush, who doesn’t mind “staying the course for 100 more years in Iraq….” As far as the military is concerned, Obama’s policy will be too keep a strong military, as every great nation needs a strong military, but, President Obama will NOT be International Police Chief Rambo, pursuing scuffles and creating mischief unnecessarily in all quaint nooks and crannies of the globe, inventing excuses for wars. President Obama will NOT be engaged in Washington’s creation of dishonest and deceptive intelligence (as George W. Bush did to create the big LIE to invade Iraq) in the usual bid to manufacture regional conflicts, to keep the cronies, friends and lobbyists of the Military Industrial Complex fat-on-the-hog, the besieged, overburdened, weary, crippled American taxpayer. This is why Obama, unlike Hillary Clinton and John Mcbush, refused, and continues to refuse campaign donations from the Lobbyists and their employers. In this second stage of the battle for the White House, Barack and David Plouffe have made it clear that the Obama Movement will continue to depend on contributions from the ordinary, hard working American, the ordinary men and women of America, the “working, hard-working American Whites,” …lol… (does anyone remember Senator Hillary Clinton, originally from Arkansas, that incredibly obnoxious Primaries candidate? We have moved on from there and it seems like such a long, very long time ago), Hispanics, Blacks, Chinese, Jews, etc. If President Obama is to restore America’s sanity, international respect, domestic dignity and the national economy (ALL flushed down the SHIT-HOLE by that neo-con warmonger George W. Bush), he CANNOT be at the beck and call of the Military Industrial Complex, their lobbyists and their cronies. Remember Jim, it’s NOT going to be just business as usual in Washington, and that is why Hillary Clinton was REJECTED by the PEOPLE. This is NOT ROCKET SCIENCE Jim, it’s simple, All-American White, Black, Hispanic, Chinese, Jewish, etc. common sense. By the way, let me share some insider information with you, and inform you that Obama’s running mate WILL BE a woman, a talented, honest, decent, beautiful, sexy, educated, pro-change, All-American WHITE woman. Of course these qualities DO NOT describe Hillary Clinton! God bless America.
