Shake Up In McCain Land
Posted by Ashish on 07.02.2008

Politico reports that Steve Schmidt is taking over the day-to-day operations of the McCain camp in a move that will reduce the influence of campaign manager Rick Davis. Davis has taken a lot of heat for wasting the four month head start McCain had after winning the Republican nomination. The McCain camp has also been criticized for not having an organized plan of attack against Obama.

Schmidt should change that. He is very aggressive, used to work for Bush/Cheney, and is known for his "political combat." Word is that he has been told to completely overhaul the entire campaign, which doesn't exactly indicate much confidence in what McCain has been doing for the past few months.

Just like we saw during the Obama/Clinton race, one side is having to make a lot of staff changes constantly while the other keeps rolling along with basically the same people they have had since the start. Campaign shake ups usually occur on the side that thinks their losing. Right now that's pretty clear. But it's still July. The real fireworks have yet to begin.

It's about time they made changes. The McCain campaign has been run horribly thus far. They totally wasted a golden opportunity to gain an advantage while Obama and Clinton went at it.
