Giuliani Says Republicans Ready For Pro-Choice VP
Posted by Ashish on 08.20.2008

Rudy Giuliani, a pro-choice Republican and the keynote speaker at this year's convention, says that the party is ready for a pro-choice VP.

"I know John McCain. I know his seriously, his love of country…He will choose the best person, and if that person happens to be, among other things, pro-choice, the party will support that."

If McCain picks Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman as his VP, both of whom are pro-choice, it is likely to create MAJOR backlash and could tear the Republican party in half. It is a major risk and with McCain finally consolidating the Republican base behind him, would be an easy way to throw all that away.

All this pro-choice VP talk is probably just a setup to make former pro-choicer Mitt Romney look better though, as he or Tim Pawlenty remain the likely pick.

I think saying it will rip the party in half is rather hyper-bole. The Republican party is full of moderates, not radicals. While their will be grumbling for a little while they will change their tune quickly enough.

And by the way, if he picks Joe Liberman is he still John McSame who is just playing partisan politics?
