Biden Solid Pick for Obama

Thoughts on Biden...
I missed submission for the roundtable about this but I thought I'd add an article about the Biden pick anyway. Back when this campaign started and there was a small glimmer of hope amongst candidates not named Clinton, I was hoping Joe Biden would win the party nomination. Biden is well-spoken, well-informed and unafraid of making political statements that are unpopular if he thinks it's the right thing to do. He has a solid working class background, a real man of the people that brings 35 years plus of experience to the ticket. Perhaps Biden's finest political charm is that he doesn't come off as an average bullshit artist looking to screw you and make you feel happy all at the same time wielding a shit eating grin on his face. There is a genuine quality to Biden and that's something that people can both relate to and feel relieved to be receiving from a political leader. On top of all that, Biden's foreign policy expertise and organized labor roots helps solidify both the democratic base and helps ease concerns over Obama's lack of experience.
The knocks against Biden aren't strong enough to make him a poor choice. The McCain camp will and already has tried to use Biden's own words against the dems, but sound bites from a debate 6 months ago probably won't hold too much water, especially after Biden hammers home his belief in Obama for the next 3 months. His shoot from the hip style of speaking can also bring potential fire to the campaign, but once people see what a logical, straight shooter he is they won't be too concerned with some silly one-liners he may have. Ultimately of course we choose a president, not a vice president, so the Biden frenzy will probably die out in roughly a week. But on the campaign trail, Biden will prove to be a great asset to the democratic ticket.
