Dems Need Focus
Posted by Bryant Daniels on 09.16.2008

The more I see democrats on television the more I'm convinced they're 18 year old chicks from Omaha trying to make it in Hollywood. That is, the manipulation of the democratic party by the republicans is akin to that of a porn director promising to make the blonde with the big tits from Pig Farm, U.S.A. a star. You don't have to look any further than the polls, which remain close despite 8 of America's worst years in every conceivable political category. John McCain has, in those 8 years, aligned himself more closely with Bush than he had been when he really was the maverick running in 2000. Despite this, McCain has not only kept it close with Obama, but has also made up ground and may in fact win the whole damn thing. How is it possible, that anyone with half a brain could reward a party that has fucked up so bad with more time to fuck it up further? –

Because Republicans simply know how to play the game better.

I'm convinced of this because of Sarah Palin. I was on the fence, not sure what the true cause of this mass idiocy was, until I saw the republicans select a woman with no qualifications to be the VP and, not only get away with it, but also turn the media inside out, leaving the democrats in disarray. First don't bullshit me with "she has more experience than Obama." She fucking doesn't; he's been vetted everyday for 18 months. If he weren't qualified, he wouldn't be the democratic nominee, so let's cut that bullshit out. Palin was vetted maybe for 18 minutes, by a retard humping a doorknob in Wassila. McCain met her once and called to ask her to be his running mate while she was at the Alaska state fair. The shittiest sitcom writer couldn't come up with this crap. Her experience is nil, her claims are overblown, and her record is spotty. Living in a state with an oil pipeline is not "energy experience" and being located adjacent to Russia isn't "foreign policy know-how." Being investigated for abusing power is not the trait of an "ethics reformer" and spending more per-person on earmark requests than any other state in the country isn't "fiscal crusader" material. Not to mention she opposes abortion in cases of rape and incest, believes in abstinence training while having a pregnant 17 year-old, and thinks dinosaurs existed 4000 years ago. Thinking about this woman leading our country couldn't be more terrifying. However, she seems to be getting away with it, with her popularity soaring and her status as a political rock star anointed by that same liberal media that conservatives have bitched about since Eisenhower.

How? How can people be so bamboozled?

Simple manipulation. The Republican con-artistry is really something that should be studied and frankly admired. If power is the ability to get other people to do what you want, then truly those most powerful ride a big fucking elephant. Only a slick operator can fuck you with an elephant dick and make you believe you liked it. Republicans have played the sexism card hard, and have used it effectively. They've made the media seem like bullies and have goaded democrats into bitching about Palin instead of how fucked the economy is. They've lied, outright LIED, in their stump speeches and commercials to the point that Karl Rove, the grand wizard of dirty politics himself, has said they've gone too far. But the whole time, good or bad, they are still controlling the narrative. They are still setting the agenda, fighting on their own terms, and winning because of it. John McCain doesn't have one new idea about how to run this country, but you wouldn't know it from all the maverick talk, and you sure as hell wouldn't hear it from the media, still drooling over Palin coverage. Democrats have historically had trouble with this for a number of reasons, but the root cause is that they're still fighting for their soul. Democrats always seem to lose the fight on republican terms, because they think that's where they need to go to win – to expose the big sham that is the republican ideal. But by doing that, by believing that porn director who says "show us your tits and the people will love you," they're becoming the whores. They're going against their better judgment, losing their principles and weakening themselves in the process. When you let your opponent choose the battleground you are left at a disadvantage. Republicans set the narrative; democrats follow to fight them on republican soil and sadly aren't nearly as good at being total lying pricks and spend the rest of the time fighting for their own souls back. The republicans, to their winning credit, dumped that soul shit a long time ago. It's hard to beat an opponent who's shameless.

"They've made the media seem like bullies and have goaded democrats into bitching about Palin instead of how fucked the economy is."

So very true, and hopefully this week's disaster will make Dems snap out of it. And thanks for conveying my outrage with the general public, most of whom would gleefully drink battery acid if it was marketed as "Patriot Juice".

Man, this is what I have been saying forever. It's like the past two president elections were made for the Dems, only to screw it up. Obama does not need to go negative at all, he just needs to stick with the issues. And as far as Palin goes, just let the facts on her record play out. I know that this will offend some folks, but this has to be said. Any white woman who supported Clinton who decides to support McCain just because he choose Palin as his running mate needs to have their head examined. These two women are complete opposites as far as the issues go, and either they are blinded by the fact that Palin is a woman, or they never cared about Clinton's position on the issues.
