Comparing Bush/Kerry to McCain/Obama
Posted by Ashish on 10.01.2008

It's October 1st. We are essentially a month away from the election. If we look back to 2004, 33 national Bush vs. Kerry polls were done between October 1st and November 1st (November 2nd was election day). Out of those 33 polls, 27 showed George W. Bush leading (his lead ranged from 1%-8%), four showed John Kerry leading (his lead ranged from 1%-2%), and two had ties. The final three polls done in 2004 all showed Bush leads of 2%-4%, and the final poll average was Bush 48.9%, Kerry 46.9%, a 2% lead for Bush.

Right now, the national McCain vs. Obama polling average is Obama 48.8%, McCain 44%, a 4.8% lead for Obama.

Obama is running a 10 times better campaign then Kerry. Obama is competing in a lot more states then Kerry was (Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa, Virginia, North Carolina, etc) and Obama's ground game is absolutely phenomenal. Plus Obama inspires and excites people A LOT more then the rather dull Kerry.
Plus, Obama is responding to swift boat attacks fast and efficiently unlike Kerry who was an idiot and ignored them. Obama picked a VP candidate who is on the same page as him unlike Kerry who picked John Edwards who he didn't really like.
Why is it still close despite all this? Who knows? But Obama is playing his cards right and comparing polls from 2004 to now which may be similar is rather pointless because the campaigns are much different (except McCain's and Bush's which are basically mirror images).

I definitely agree with Rick on this, and I would add one more point. Too many people were looking at their point-of-view in the election as "Anti-Bush" instead of "Pro-Kerry." This year, there are a lot of voters that are responding to what Obama is saying, so they consider themselves "Pro-Obama." We'll see what happens this year; hopefully the younger voters that Kerry thought he could count on will actually get to the polls this time...

Screw Obama and McCain, Ron Paul was the United States only hope, but this country of sheep only know what CNN and Fox News feed them for breakfast.

You're all about to get what you deserve.

Why is this race still so close? Because half of white Americans are still racist.
