Palin Gets Booed At Flyers Game
Posted by Ashish on 10.11.2008

Yikes. Sarah Palin got booed loudly tonight as she did the puck drop at the Philadelphia Flyers/New York Rangers hockey game. Sports and politics never mix well. I can't believe nobody in the McCain campaign knew that. Nobody goes to a hockey game to see political candidates, especially not in Philadelphia where they are already being bombarded with political advertising and campaigning from both sides. Not to mention the fact that Obama is expected to win Philly overwhelmingly. Why send Palin into that environment? Now every evening news broadcast in Philly tonight will feature Palin being booed by a sold out crowd.

She deserved every bit of it. I hope Obama smashes McCain November 4 and we never hear about her again.

That was full of win.

See, this is why I'd be concerned about her going on Saturday Night Live. That has disaster written all over it.

You mean folks in Philly are pissed at a woman who's helping turn the election into a racial AND religious war?!?

Posted By: Jevan (Guest)  on October 11, 2008 at 11:57 PM

On second thought, it *is* Philadelphia. They come out of the womb booing.

They booed Santa Claus, but slightly less enthusiastically.

Yeah, I'm not defending their behavior, but Philly fans once booed Santa Claus. It's not like they don't have a reputation for this...

Just wanna say that it is stupid for any campaign to do something like this since sports fan tend to be hostile...

... but out of all the places McCain and Palin could have chosen, Philly? This is the same city that cheered seeing a player from an opposing team be carried off on a stretcher during an Eagles game.

Posted By: Pedro (Guest)  on October 12, 2008 at 12:47 AM

Considering it's Philly, she's lucky all they did was boo.

Posted By: Matt (Guest)  on October 12, 2008 at 01:20 AM

Yet another example how the McCain campaign is out of touch, like Philly fans are going to cheer a "hockey mom". I remember Clinton getting booed and he was popular!

didnt philly fans cheer micheal irvin was carted off the field on a stretcher?

so a woman who is pro-american yet cant speak english that insinuates that her opponent isnt fit for office due to his ethnicity was booed. ANYONE SURPRISED?

I love how all of a sudden its PALIN injecting "race" into this when Barack has built his ENTIRE campaign on race. Or the fact that if anyone even raises a LEGIT point about Barack's shortcomings, were all of a sudden racists. You people REALLY should find out the TRUE definition of racism before commenting. But I know you wont so I hope you enjoy losing every right our forefathers and more importantly our military have fought, bled and died for.

Philly fans booing? EPIC DUH

Posted By: Shieky Baby (Guest)  on October 12, 2008 at 07:16 AM

Whichever person in the McCain campaign thought that this was a good idea really wasn't thinking right. Why would you have her appear in Philadelphia, where the demographics cleary don't favor her and the fans boo everything? It would've been better for Mrs. Palin if they tried this stunt in Phoenix or perhaps Dallas, where at least she'd get a warmer reception.

I'm a native Philadelphian. Moved away a while ago but still "live and die" (okay-mostly "die") with Philadelphia sports teams.

Saturday night, Flyers fans gave me one MORE reason to be proud of my home town!!

They also threw snowballs at Jimmy Johnson! lol

Typical Philly class...all of it low.

It's not Obama I have a problem with. It's his supporters. I'll be voting McCain just because of you all. You're as scuzzy as those low foreheads at the Palin rallies.

I'm really surprised they sent her there. I'm not sure what she was trying to accomplish, but hockey fans tend to be the most blue collar of sports fans that attends games. The football stadiums are full of PSL's to fill the seats, the Phillies have more white collar fanbase because of the cost. I guess they tried the "hockey mom" angle, but most hockey mom's don't have vacation homes, tanning beds in their homes, and don't force their daughters into shotgun weddings.

As far as McCain being out of touch, he complemented the "Afghan Freedom Fighters", who later attacked us on 9/11, so history is not his strong point. Actually, what is his strong point?

Posted By: gahook (Guest)  on October 12, 2008 at 11:15 AM

This was another example of the McCain/Palin campaign being out of touch. Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans in Philly by almost 6 to 1. Also, Palin told Fox News that she brought her daughter and put her in a Flyers uniform to reduce the boos. Talk about throwing your kid under a bus.

I've lived in the Philly area for about 20 years, but I don't root for Philly teams because I didn't grow up here. I still say a boo should not be called a "Bronx cheer". It should be called a "Broad Street cheer".

Hell yeah Booo that dumb bitch! I love Philly!!! Rembmer when they cheered the hell out of Power And Glory for whipping ass on The Rockers at Summerslam '90. Classic. Vince was trying to cover that up big time. You can hear it in the commentary!

Posted By: FEAR (Guest)  on October 12, 2008 at 11:59 AM

I was there... There were way more people cheering for her then the group of people booing.

More "they booed Santa Claus" nonsense.

Before you do what every douchebag media outlet does, which is open your mouth without knowing the story, go research exactly how that Santa deal went down.

Soooooooooo sick of hearing about Philly is the city that booed Santa.

Morons.

man of all the places to send someone... philly is not a good place.

i mean they cheered when michael irvin got carried off in stretcher.. and therew snowballs filled with batteries at Jimmy Johnson... Philly fans are hard core and nuts

"Soooooooooo sick of hearing about Philly is the city that booed Santa."

They did. Every account of the event says they booed while throwing snowballs. You can claim he was a "surrogate" for booing the team and management all you like...at the end of the day, Philly fans still booed Santa Claus.

If you are going to base your entire election decision making on that then its a shame you are even allowed to vote. Shame on you & please stop sharing your ignorance with everyone on this blog you pathetic short-sighted neanderthal.

In terms of the "why," it's pretty simple - the owner of the Flyers is a big republican and gave a lot of money to the McCain campaign (it also tied in with some sort of "ultimate hockey mom" contest they ran, with a fan on the ice to drop the puck with Palin.

Unrelated, but most reports are saying she had mixed reactions. I watched the game (huge Rangers fan) and heard pretty merciless boos, but not much in the way of applause.

To C.M. Wolf
Obama has not even mentioned race, unless you are calling the poor and the middle class people of color. You seem to be as clueless as Palin. She is a hate monger who is a disgrace to the GOP ticket and especially a disgrace to women who realize she is a disgrace and not just a hockey mom. Unfortunately there are those who don't realize she is actually one big insult. Abraham Lincoln and our forefathers would NOT approve of her direct nasty attacks. Hopefully she will not only get booed but booted back to Alaska. John McCain has sold his soul in an attempt to gain the female vote. Not Mine!

Another possible Palin scandal, contractors (including Kumin Associates and Spenard Builders Supply) who helped build the Palin's house and sponsored Todd's sport team are awarded lucrative sport complex deals. Unfortunately, Spenard also worked on the house of Senator Stevens, which was part of the VECO scandal.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/11/182559/55/690/627810

Finally, a celebrity recap of the various Palin scandals:

I'm asking who is Sarah Palin?

I know that she's a woman who doesn't believe in allowing women the right to choose their own reproductive health decisions even if they are victims of rape... but approves of these victims getting billed by the government for the rape kits used to examine them.

I know she's a beauty pageant runner-up who is a gun totin' extremist in her views on the environment, religion, women's choice and the separation of church and state.

I know she's a woman who along with John McCain would divide this country while pledging that she and the Senator are "mavericks" who know how to reach across the aisle.

I know that as mayor of the small town of Wasilla she increased spending by 63% and left behind a $19 million long-term debt, which was non-existent before she took office.

I know she hired the same good-ol'-boy network of Washington lobbyists she says she will fight if elected, in order to secure millions of dollars of earmarks for Wasilla.

I know that she's been found guilty of abusing her power as governor by pressuring a state official to fire her former brother-in-law and then firing the official when he refused... an investigation that began prior to her selection as vice president.
