Campbell Brown on Obama and Blagojevich
Posted by Dave Schilling on 12.11.2008

Campbell Brown of CNN, ever the crusader for justice, has called on President-elect Obama to be more forthcoming about what he knows about the Blagojevich scandal.

I've been pretty quiet on this subejct for one simple reason: it's not of much interest to me. It's not particularly amusing, like say, the Eliot Spitzer issue. There's no tawdry sex to giggle over. It's also pretty cut and dry. There's one party to blame here, and that is Governor Blagojevich. Patrick Fitzgerald, someone who has a reputation as a straight-shooter from the Scooter Libby trial, says none of the peripheral players are under investigation. There's not much else to be said but to ask very nicely for Rod to get the hell out of office.

That leads me to Ms. Brown's assertion that the office of the President-elect isn't being open enough. She is brazen enough to bring up Bush administration obfuscation in her piece. None of us want to see a repeat of the Media Iron Curtain that the Ari Fleischers, Scott McClellans and Dana Perinos of the world erected during the last 8 years. Let's be clear-minded and remember that this President-elect is holding press conferences every day, issuing statements and letting the press grill him on a regular basis. He's not hiding, he's not rejecting questions outright like our sitting President. Campbell Brown is a smart person who has done some great work at CNN, but even she admits that not speaking freely about an ongoing investigation is appropriate. Like many in the media, I think she gets off on being self-righteous toward whomever is in power. Having crusading know-it-all journalists is an important part of our democracy. I don't deny that she has a duty to dig deeper, but in this case, I think her efforts are woefully misplaced. I'm more interested in her questioning Obama on his possible reversal on NAFTA than the Scandal du jour.

When listing the creators of the Media Iron Curtain you left out Tony Snow. Death does not absolve him of downplaying sexual overtures toward minors. The phrase "naughty e-mails" should be etched on his tombstone for all time.

Aww...they should weally weave poow Bawwy awone.

Man, 2 solid years of soft balling and gushing has really spoiled you folks. *Gasp* How dare Campbell Brown have a critical opinion of how my man-crush conducts himself.

If CB were really such a smartie pants, she would be grilling the Big O about a "possible" policy shift and completely ignoring the story that is currently dominating the news cycle.

Yeah. That's the ticket.

And Shockmaster, we all know that liberals are so filled with hate that even the death of the object of their hatred can never absolve them of their transgressions, nor provide any relief for their deeply held fixation with needing to feel superior to that person in every way.

My suggestion would be to go to the home of Snow's widow and children, defecate on their doorstep, use said fecal matter to scribble "Tool of the BusHitler" on their frontdoor, ring the bell, and when they answer, dance around laughing and chanting "naughty e-mails" while gesturing obscenely towards your fecal handiwork. Perhaps this will allow for a moment of catharsis in which you are finally able to make peace with the dead and even open up room in your heart for a new hatred of someone else, perhaps even someone with a pulse.

Whatever you do, just remember to stay classy.

Why is it the people who are sarcastically telling others "stay classy" are usually raging douchebags? Funny how that works.

Obama will be open and honest, just like Bush was open and honest.

Well...there are SOME people in the country who care more about policy than some ultimately meaningless scandal. Feel free to continue being fascinated by the big, shiny ball of sensationalism the mainstream media dangles in your face while you're getting screwed over by bad legislation.

So the investigations have already shown that Obama was not tied to this, but here's the media shaking it to death like a dog with a bone. Too bad they couldn't have done this with issues that matter, like most of Bush's 8 years in charge.

CNN could be so much better if they weren't focused on emphasizing the M.O.s of their various personalities. Campbell Brown and her rough-nosed "no bias, no bull", Lou Dobbs and his "eternally pessimistic crusade for the middle class", Anderson Cooper and his "crossover appeal, keeping them honest one minute and saying 'bff' the next". I enjoy CNN, but it can be hard to take anyone seriously whose last name isn't Gergen.

And duh, you do a good job of coming off like a 'liberal', according to your own criteria. Filled with hate, indeed.

It's priceless to me that Republicans love to say that all liberals are filled with hate. This is the party that hates gays so much they wanted to amend the fucking constitution. They hate poor people so much they let New Orleans drown. They hate minorities for a host of reasons. Mostly because they're poor. It's a two-for-one special on hatred. They hate unions so much they're willing to let the Big 3 die. They hate liberals because our opinion is different. Hey, that makes perfect sense, doesn't it? They hate questions so much that they refuse to answer them and call us un-American for daring to ask them.

Yeah, you're right, us liberals are just haters. Us and our silly quest for personal responsibility. Who needs that garbage?

A thoughtful, reasoned piece. Thanks,
