411 Politics Fact or Fiction: Week 119 - Obama's Cabinet, Michael Steele as Head of the RNC, More
Posted by Brandon Crow on 02.09.2009

Good day to all. It's Week 119 of Politics Fact or Fiction. And for those following, my dad's 80th birthday bash went off swimmingly. It was great to see him so happy, surrounded by close friends and family members he'd known throughout the years.

So last week we got some pretty contentious back and forth between Sheryl and John. Let's see how this week pans out. Though I have a sneaky feeling that with oft-participant Krunchy Law involved, it won't be contentious as much as off the wall wacky and hilarious. Those of you familiar with Krunchy know what I mean. The other participant is politics zone columnist Rob Zimmer.

Let's see how these two roll.

Ding! Ding!

1. President Obama has made some poor choices in his cabinet selection.

Rob Zimmer: FICTION. By and large, President Obama's cabinet selections have been outstanding. Gone are the Bush days, where the only apparent qualifications for serving in government were blind obedience to the Bush political machine and little or no relevant experience for the job in question (remember FEMA head Michael Brown, whose previous job was Chairman of the International Arabian Horse Society?). It is true that a few of Obama's picks, including former Health and Human Services nominee Tom Daschle, have owed back taxes. However, each of these nominees paid their debt to the IRS and the fussing over back taxes seems silly in the context of the colossal problems facing our nation at home and abroad.

Americans have traditionally demanded unrealistic or impossible ethical standards of their government servants, standards which most ordinary people could never meet, generally fixating on sexual piccadillos or easily correctable IRS issues. The qualifications, experience, and ability of the nominees should be the only relevant questions, not whether someone's accountant screwed up his tax returns.

Krunchy Law: FACT. Every president makes some mistakes in general, but Obama had made a point of saying it'd be no more business as usual, and this sounds like something Harding would've done 90 years ago. I understand that rich people in general use accountants, and can make mistakes when it comes to taxes, but bitch please! The nominee for the Treasury Department that oversees the collection of taxes DIDN'T pay his damn taxes!! You KNOW they had to have vetted him before the nomination. Dude couldn't pay up a few months ago? Couldn't he have called up his accountant (should the head of the treasury HAVE an accountant?) and say, "Hey Mort, any particular reason why I didn't have to make out a check to the IRS last year?"

He OWED more money in taxes than I MADE last year. I honestly was hoping for Wesley Snipes to run the IRS. If you are going to let a tax cheat run it, at least get someone that was creative in doing so. This will just feed into those that do not want to raise any taxes at all. "Hey, if we just had someone that would COLLECT all the taxes that are owed by people like Daschle, we wouldn't NEED to raise taxes at all!"

Oh well. I hoped for the best, but everything Obama has done so far is just the same old thing the other side of the aisle did when they were in office for 8 years—round up your political base and set them upon the political landscape, like locusts on a bean field (do locusts eat beans? Do they fart afterwards? I really need to stop doing these things late Saturday night after drinking Jager.)

0 for 1.

2. The Republican National Committee has named Michael Steele the first African American to be chair of the RNC. This move signals that the Republican Party has turned the page and is now ready to be more inclusive.

Rob Zimmer: FICTION. While it would appear on the surface that naming Michael Steele as RNC chairman indicates the GOP has turned over a new leaf, it is unfortunately just a cosmetic change—different colored lipstick on the same pig, to resurrect a phrase from the presidential campaign. I feel as sorry for Steele as I did for Sarah Palin, Condoleeza Rice, or Harriet Miers, or any number of other token minorities chosen to be poster children for a political party that in essence holds relevance only in the states of the old Confederacy. They are generally accorded very little real power; the old boys still hold the reins, and as such Steele represents the worst sort of quota tokenism that the GOP accuses Democrats of perpetuating. I wish Steele the best, but until the GOP steps out of its 19th century and figures out that rich white men aren't the only important people in America, he will be little more than window dressing. Despite appearances, he is not change—it's more of the same.

Krunchy Law: FICTION. Isn't this pretty much a reaction to "Obama the Magic Negro?" Jeez, I can't imagine what THAT fuss was all about? A candidate for the leading authority in the party sending out a CD with a white guy singing like a minstrel show character making fun of black man who just happened to be elected to the highest office in the land? Besides, a few of the delegates thought they were getting the former bassist for The Bangles (the hottest Bangle in my opinion, not that weird eyeball freak Susannah Hoffs.)

I can't fault just the Republicans on this. Not counting this election (I didn't pay that much attention to it to be honest, and the research I did was back in September) only 3 black people have EVER been elected to the Senate. Obama was the only black senator during the last session, and there were no Hispanics either. There's only been 4 black governors, and only 2 of them were voted into office. The only real difference I see is that the Dems at least seem to let black people be themselves, while the Republicans try to whitewash them. Yup, whitewash!

It's nice that a black man at least gets to be the "power behind the throne" and as such they might be able to help a brother out here and there in lower level contests, but the power base for the Republicans will continue to be rich white guys. At least the Democrats allow white women to have some power too, and depending on what the court rules, Stuart Smalley. Perhaps the RNC can counter with Tim Meadows in the next election. He WAS the Ladies' Man after all. (Apparently there is a law here that you have to reference SNL, right Crow? You Betcha!)

1 or 2. You Betcha right back atcha, MAVERICK…wink, wink!

Switch!

3. Former Bush Chief of Staff Andy Card recently slammed Obama for not wearing a jacket in the White House by saying, "The Oval Office symbolizes...the Constitution…I expect him to send the message that people…in the Oval Office should treat the office with the respect that it has earned over history." This, coming from a senior official in the Bush White House, is laughable.

Krunchy Law: FACT. Just think of the things that Clinton did in that office. I mean, he most likely had PHONE SEX there. Are you gonna tell me he didn't pound one out while sitting behind that desk? I'm guessing they had trouble getting Bill to wear PANTS in the Oval Office (then again, I think every one of us would mark his territory like that. I'd be worse than a musk ox on Cialis). You don't think Bush Jr. hid behind the curtains with an Al Gore mask and a chainsaw when Cheney came to visit to see if he could give Dick YET ANOTHER heart attack? It's all fun and games until someone sets the presidential rug on fire with a misplaced doobie spark.

Wait until President Sarah Palin puts up the moose head after the 2012 inauguration. Let's see if Andy Card complains then huh?

Rob Zimmer: FACT. It's a little hard to trump Krunchy's colorful thoughts, so I won't even try. Suffice it to say that even out of office, most Bush administration officials are still clueless and tone-deaf. Does anybody really give a frack what the President wears to work as long as he's doing the work of the people? For all I care, Obama could show up in drag as long as he keeps doing a good job.

Incidentally, I have seen a number of photos of—you guessed it—Andy Card's boss himself not wearing a jacket in the Oval Office. Every president going back to Ford has worn shirtsleeves in the Oval. Card should take another nap, as he obviously didn't sleep during his six years as chief of staff; surely he has time to snooze now, given his tough current job on the board of directors of Union Pacific Railroad.

And if it's true that the Oval Office symbolizes the Constitution, I'm surprised there's not a photo out there of Bush and Cheney pissing on the carpet. Even Krunchy would agree it's one surefire way to put out a misplaced doobie spark.

2 for 3. Andy Card may just be funnier than Krunchy Law!

4. Many Republican Governors are breaking away from the Republican Congress and openly supporting President Obama's stimulus package. This proves the stimulus package is not only necessary but also a good idea.

Krunchy Law: FICTION. All it proves is that (a) they like all the pork the Democrats are feeding them, and (b) they don't mind that it's not kosher pork. Money's tight, and I don't begrudge them standing there with their hands out. I'd like to see about 125-175 billion trimmed off the stimulus package AND get some oversight into where it's all going. REAL oversight, not this "well, we will hire a former CEO of a logging company to run the Department of Woodland Conservation" or "Your former political enemy who had no real formal diplomacy training now is Secretary of State." Either way, you've just hired a nasty little beaver, and let it loose on the woodshed. (hmmmm, chainsaws, woodsheds and beavers? Perhaps I need more pulp or fiber in my diet?)

Doesn't everyone get the point that politicians are always going to try to help themselves and their constituents more than others? Sen. Brownback's state is probably NOT going to be in line for a ton of money from the National Endowment of the Arts (Michael Phelps IS Noah in BIBLE CAMP ROCK!) so he'll want to get rid of that because it's useless to him.

As Bush said in 2004, after winning the election, "I've got political capital now and whoa doggie, I'm gonna use it!! YEHA!!" Perhaps I am just paraphrasing a bit … but just for dramatic effect I assure you. Obama is a master politician. He'll probably have them cut a few programs he didn't want anyway, and get pretty much everything he wanted in the first place, while making it look like everyone had their say. In business, we'd call that "buy-in," If there were any jobs left in America, more people would know that term.

Rob Zimmer: FACT. Truth is, the stimulus package is really a long-term investment package mixed with a stimulus package. A good chunk of the money will be spent on long-term economic stability and growth prospects, in addition to the emergency funding for health care, unemployment benefit extension, etc. This is a good thing. Washington, like most of corporate America, too often seeks only short-term, easy gains at the expense of longer-term, more difficult investments into the future. Look at it this way: the government could write every American a check for $2,000 tomorrow, but would that change any of the institutional economic problems? Not at all.

Another reason Republican Governors are backing the stimulus package is because it contains a big chunk of change to help state governments make up for their shocking, widening budget deficits. The irony of the so-called Bush economic plan was that in the process of handing out trillions in tax cuts to the rich and for corporate welfare, they in effect created a tax increase on state and local governments forced to contend with the vacuum in revenue and funding for essential programs.

Smart Republicans are being pragmatic and steering clear of the tired supply-side ideology of Republicans like chain-smoker Rep. John Boehner and good ole boy Sen. John Cornyn. I'm not sure what Hillary Clinton has to do with the stimulus package, but since Krunchy took a swipe at her, I should point out that I'd rather have Clinton at State with no "formal" diplomatic training than, say, Michael "Heckuva Job" Brown at FEMA with his formal training running Arabian Horse shows.

2 for 4.

As Porky Pig used to say…abli, abli, abli, abli…that's all folks! Thanks to Krunchy and Rob. Come back next week for Week 120! See you in seven.

Rob, how do you figure his appointments so far have been 'outstanding'? At last count 4 tax cheats. WTF? Seriously. And don't say they were using accountants and whatnot. Maybe they were, but the responsibility ultimately lies with them. I seriously doubt that if it were Republicans, they'd get the benefit of the doubt you're giving this motley crew. In addition, none of them took care of it until someone else found it. They were too arrogant to care, until other people started noticing.

As far as how they dress, I'll agree...who gives a rat's ass. Hell, all the way back to at least Kennedy, presidents have been schtupping and getting bodily fluids all over the White House. I really don't think it matters if he has a jacket on or not. That's just another item of clothing to catch DNA samples. It's sad we have such low expectations of our leaders.

As far as the stimulus, why was it anathema for Bush to run deficits and borrow against the future, but it's somehow "Change We Can Believe In" for Obama to do it? Same shit, different day. And if you can't see that, you're eating it, they're shoveling it, and you can no longer smell it. Fact is, Obama's just a darker, slightly more eloquent version of Bush, and you guys are going to realize this by the end of his first term.

Daschel his wife are uber-lobbyists. That is the real issue to me. But we will never know the Administration's knowledge of his grifting ways because they will not let the public get a look at their ethic's policy waiver used to hire administrative officials that are clearly violating of the Administrations ethics policy. At least Obama's motives are transparent.

Americans have traditionally demanded unrealistic or impossible ethical standards of their government servants, standards which most ordinary people could never meet"

Fuck you Zimmer, I can meet those standards. So can about damn near everyone I know.

It's simple asshole, just pay your taxes and/or not be a pervert. It's called control...and your blanket apology for these actions is the primary reason they are allowed to happen.

Just because you're some whoring, drunk, with tax problems doesn't mean you speak for everyone.

Fuck you again Crow, first that dumb broad last week, and now this jackass Zimmer.

Can't find anyone who is even more fucking blinded by Liberal light?

Your Fact or Fictions are quickly becoming a chore to read- I'm so sick of you loading the question...

Like the one about the Oval Office and respect- because Bush is immoral right? No mention of Clinton almost getting impeached for fucking a fat chick.

I swear to God I want to like your work Crow, I really do...but you incite some real feelings in me to just call you a bastard.

Zimmer is fucking clown shoes, and blindly follows whatever shit the Liberals ask him to try out...

The stimulus plan "is a stimulus package is really a long-term investment package mixed with a stimulus package"- shut the fuck up, its a welfare bomb designed to keep everyone in debt for twenty years.

800 million dollars on a 200% interest rate...anyone who supports this is retarded, or has no kids...

No sane person would ever accept this plan in it's current form, and if anyone did it would have been signed into law already.

I have no doubt that the plan will be signed, maybe even next week- and I'll be the first to say that it will be a waste of fucking time and money.

The Liberals can't even keep track of the money already given out to the banks...

God, I hope Obama leads us into a war with Iran so I can burn off some frustration, and I hope all you liberals get drafted so you can share in the fun.

Especially Zimmer, but he seems too much like a pansy-ass too hack it. He's a fucking bozo, and I hope he never appears on Fact or Fiction ever again.

Wow...if it isn't my old friend The Spook...

Spook, you are either some kind of funny or some kind of stupid.

Your Fact or Fictions are quickly becoming a chore to read- I'm so sick of you loading the question...Like the one about the Oval Office and respect- because Bush is immoral right? No mention of Clinton almost getting impeached for fucking a fat chick."

Ok, quick lesson, and I'll keep it easy so you can follow. Firstly, a "loaded question" is a logical fallacy, often used to trap a respondent into two equally unsavory answers.

An example: Hey Spook, do you still jack off to pictures of your mother naked?

A) Spook: Yes.
Public: Yew, Spook, you sick fuck!

B) Spook: No.
Public: Yew, that means you used to...Spook, you sick fuck!

So let me ask you this: how exactly was the Andy Card question loaded? Both Krunchy and Rob answered FACT. How is that unsavory? And how would it have been equally unsavory had either said FICTION?

And as for your surface-level, cliched response of what about Bill Clinton being immoral...

...well, ask a stupid fucking question, you'll get an answer that makes you look like a stupid fuck.

Bill Clinton's chief of staff isn't out there slamming Obama, is he?

Spook, I want to like you...I really do. But you're such a shallow, partisan moron that you make it really tough.

But you're lucky I'm compassionate. I hold almost infinite patience for those who are retarded.

Oh, and by the way, in honor of what's good for the goose...

FUCK YOU!

Spook,

Your response here are easily the dumbest comments I have ever EVER read on the internet, including the mentally defective and subnormal ones on FOX sports' comments section.

Congratulations and your phenomenal achievement. Pat yourself on the back. And just to help you out, your back is the side of your body your nose isn't on.

Ok, one more hint...your nose sits below your eyes.

What's all this BS that people keep harping, about several of Obama's appointments being tax cheats!

-Timothy Geitner got busted for not paying, what I believe to be, Social Security benefits, when he worked for the IMF, as an "independent contractor", or whatever they called it.

He was in a grey area of the tax code, as to how to deal with his IC status, while working internationally, and he made the mistake of not being cautious, and just paying the extra tax, in case the situation changed. He eventually paid all money due to the IRS, with interest, so the problem was resolved.

-Tom Daschle's problem came, as far as I know, when he did not pay taxes on the driver that he was using, with the vehicle and driver being provided to him by a friend, who apparently was also a business partner.

If the driver and vehicle are not yours, it'd be fair for a person to have assumed that the whole matter would be settled by the friend, who offered the vehicle and driver in the first place, but it wasn't.

Daschle end ups, after the fact, paying the tax on the car and driver, as if he had hired the driver for the entire year and used the vehicle fulltime, in an effort to clear up the mess. Unfortunately, the shit storm picked up, and making amends for the problem became a non-solution.

-Bill Richardson had an issue come up, which had the appearance of impropriety in some of the dealings in his state, over a government contract, so I don't see how you can throw him into the whole tax mess.

You can hoot and holler on the real world "magnitude" of the mistakes, but when taken in their contexts, these should've and would've been treated as relatively minor offense, if only Obama had not pledged to raise the accountability of government to new standards of excellence and transparency. Oh well, you take lemons and make lemonade.

The Cabinet, which has been looking rock solid, still has Geitner to come in, and hopefully fix the credit mess, Senator Gregg, to come in and work with Pete Orzag to develop a palatable plan to balance the budget, but also possibly adding Gov. Sebellius to the mix, leading the push to finally make healthcare affordable for all citizens of the United States.

It is still an excellent team, and it's getting stronger.

Because, unlike Bush, or near any other Republican president in recent history, Obama actually has a plan to actually balance the budget, with all the tools on the table, from eventually letting tax cuts lapse to cutting programs, deemed unnecessary to the country, at his disposal.

Bush was the antithesis to what the sterotypical "small government" Republican is supposed to be. Did Bush have a balanced budget for any of the years of his Presidency?

At least Obama is upfront and honest about what and how he believes the country should be run.

He's a "tax and spend" Democrat, cut from the mold of Bill Clinton, who is willing to evaluate, cut and fund programs, which he feels will streamline the country and make things work better for the American people.

He moves to his own drum, and isn't beholden to any one group, so he can be clear and objective, in determining what is best for the country, rather than what will please a constituency group.

Finally, a President who seems to get it!

So ... he's an "uber-lobbyist", because a private sector firm hired him, at the time a private citizen, as a consultant, to teach their staff how to interact with Congress, on behalf of the firms they represented, such as HealthSouth and National Association for Home Care and Hospice, organizations, that are working to improve the care for the elderly in the US?

Are you serious?

Krunchy Law may be an idiot when it comes to his opinions of poilitcs but I have to say we need more of him on 411 politics....

"Bill Clinton's chief of staff isn't out there slamming Obama, is he?"

No, but give it longer then a week- ROM is the most extreme one of the bunch, he's probably begging Obama to push the "button".

ROM looks like he was infected with the "Land of Dead" virus, and will glady eat a person to pass this stimulus bill.

It's good to see you step up and defend your lacky, Zimmer. I bet the two of you have great time out and about in town terrorizing rich white people, and saving barn owls...asshole.

But how can you say question 3 is not loaded? Why is it that everything that someone from the Bush administration says or does is hypocritical? Why do you stoop to defend Obama by attacking Bush?

And the question IS loaded because you play to emotional/political bias of the person or audience...thus any answer other then the obvious could be considered supportive of the less popular choice.

Do you really think that people are that stupid, dirtbag? Or it is laughable?

Why not be honest?

The only reason why Liberals hate Bush is because he "stole" Gore's right to have 9/11 happen to him. We all never got to see what Gore could do...and that alone pisses off every single one of you liberals.

At least say it Crow...say "I hate Bush because he beat Gore, so then I attacked him on everything he ever did and blame him for things he never did, and blame for things he did..."

You're an asshole.

Look, I have to go to work, I still have a job to do- and that job keeps me from really pointing out all the bad things about Obama I really want to say...

"But you're such a shallow, partisan moron that you make it really tough."

Keep looking in that mirror, jerkoff.

And Zimmer is dork, and you know it.

There goes the Spook again...spewing without thinking again...

Hey Spookie-poo, do you even know how Fact or Fiction works? It's an interactive column. Readers and columnists ask to be scheduled in for a week to participate. Crow schedules them in and sends off questions.

You berate Sheryl and Rob's participation as if Crow hand picks these people for the specific purpose of pissing you off. Trust me, I'm pretty sure Crow isn't thinking about what the mighty Emperor Spook demands to read when he puts his columns together.

And isn't it interesting you demonize Crow for Sheryl and Rob because they seem to hold, in your view, "a blind liberal light." Well then, why didn't you demonize Crow for John, who was on opposite Sheryl for his "blind neo-con light?" Could it be you're nothing more than just a partisan hack? Don't answer that...it's a rhetorical question. Or, as you would mistakenly call it, a loaded question.

You seem so stuff flaming people behind anonymity. Why don't you actually grow the pair of balls you pretend to have and join the writing staff? Put your thougths out there under your real name and stand behind them.

Seriously, you're a child.

Geitner was not in a grey area. The IMF regularly told him that he had to pay those taxes himself.

Stop being mean to Spook. It's becoming blaringly obvious to me that he has PTSD.

I apologize.

Clearly I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

it was certainly in bad taste to call that girl from last week a "broad"...or Zimmer, who I really don't know, a "whoring, drunk, with tax problems" "dork" and "clown Shoes"...

Most of all, Crow, you are not an "asshole".

The point of my "argument" is that it's getting old to blame Bush...its even older to blame the war(s).

Bush is not the single point of success or failure for these problems- and of course neither is Obama.

There are ethical concerns about who is put in charge of the money alloted to this "stimulus plan"- the entire plan needs time to be reviewed.

This plan is something that will cause more damage then the current economic recession is doing, if not executed properly.

The other point is that Obama made promises- they are all cleary noted on the Whitehouse webpage. And he is breaking those already.

I have this feeling that liberals in general will pass anything that is proposed...

This current state of divison in political thought reminds me of the Red Scare...anyone who thinks along a conservative line is attacked.

The war in Iraq had to happen.

It was a success, and the lessosn learned will allow us to fight our enemies better- and God willing, with better results early.

We at war people. Bush did not start it...Clinton did not either, but we are at war.

This economic downturn is a minor problem compared to what is to come...

Iran and Isreal will kick off in Obamas term...I hope you all can see the need then for why we did things now.

Keep thinking that Bush was "wrong" or "evil"- he may have given us the best chance for winning the bigger war that looms ahead.

As of now, damn near every warfighter we have is a veteren. Our technology is more suited for fighting these savages.

The "trillion" dollars spent will ensure our future, if and when, diplomacy fails.

I hope I am wrong, but I don't think I am- so excuse me when I get pissy when someone blames the "war" on our economic turmoils...

Bad lending practices by people who are not responsible with money led to the majority of problems.

Spook said,"It's good to see you step up and defend your lacky, Zimmer. I bet the two of you have great time out and about in town terrorizing rich white people, and saving barn owls...asshole."

Um, did I miss something, or is Spook talking out of his ass again? I'm combing through Crow's response to Spook and there's absolutely no mention of Rob Zimmer except to say he answered FACT to question 3, which Krunchy also did.

So, Spookie-poo, where exactly is your evidence that Crow is defending Zimmer?

What are you, high? Or are you just the regular ol' asshole we've all come to know you as and you just decided to toss something in there even though it's clearly untrue?

You're so quick to attack Crow and Zimmer as liberal assholes but what about you? Aren't you the prototype of the conservative jerkoff who claims things are there even when it's clear they're not there? And long after things have been disproven, you still bring it up as it it's still up for debate.

I'll bet you're a flat earther.

I already apologized for my actions...

I had a long night of defending America's freedom. Do you know the pressure of being always right...

Although I'm not wrong, I clearly could have been nicer in what and how I said certain things.

Spook? you should stop stealing my name and using it...I will fucking file a copyright lawsuit on your dumb ass so fast your head will snap.

I promise, and I keep my promises, not like most newly elected Presidents, I will not say anything offensive on this topic...

So please show the same maturity and simply walk away...just walk away.

The next topic I will show a more thought out measured response...if it is a measured thought out topic...

So again, I'm sorry for calling Zimmer an asshole, and a whoring, drunk tax cheat.

I'm sorry that I called that chick from last week a "broad".

I'm sorry for disappointing Crow...again, and I know this time it was my fault, and there might not be a next time to make it up to him.

I'm sorry that the economy is shit- I know that it is all my kinds fault.

I'm sorry for the war in Iraq and know it does not directly tie into 9/11...

I will be better, I will do better, because I must...because I have too.

Because that's what liberals expect- a heartfelt apology that places all the world problems on my conservative shoulders...

I accept those problems and will hold them until the liberals in charge figure out what the fuck they want to do, and hopefully not ruin this country in the process.

V/R

Wow, Spook lasted what... 4 days before turning back into Mr Internet Tough Guy? Christ, I'd love to see you try and say this shit to people in real life, you coward... I'd love to see you get completely humiliated with not only someone taking your drivel and neatly dissecting it while those around you point at you and laugh, but then also turn around and beat the everloving shit out of you if you actually had the nerve to utter even half of of the insults that you spew out from behind the safety of the computer in your mommy's basement.

You tried to be a mature, logical person for a couple days, but now we see that asking you to think and compose rational intelligent arguments to shore up your diseased opinions was just too much to ask.

Scott B,

I have already apologized.

What more do you want? And yes, I would say these things to your face- and yes, I would get away with it...

Because no matter how much you wish it, we do not live in a facist country.

I have the right to free speech, and so do you, and thats a right that I'm proud to defend everyday- for the last eight years, and counting.

...and because I could kick your ass.

So please accept my apology so that we can all move on in this dark time in liberal history...

You have succeeded, you have silenced a conservative war hero with high moral standards.

You win.

So please stop beating me while I'm down- which is not to be confused with beating off while a man goes down on you...because your gay.

I'm sorry I called you gay on the internet Scott. I wish I could say it to your face- but you would probably try and kiss me.

Please accept my apology. Sincerly, I want to turn over a new leaf- again.

Because for four days I tried to play nice, but conservative thought is clearly "evil" and the cause of all the problems...

I know those errors now.

It's funny to watch you guys falling all over yourselves to try to defend Geitner, Daschle, et. al. I'm sure you were just as forgiving of Larry Craig's "wide stance."

Honestly, where are the ethics? You can criticize the critics all you want, but the facts remain the facts.

"-Timothy Geitner got busted for not paying, what I believe to be, Social Security benefits, when he worked for the IMF, as an "independent contractor", or whatever they called it.

He was in a grey area of the tax code, as to how to deal with his IC status, while working internationally, and he made the mistake of not being cautious, and just paying the extra tax, in case the situation changed. He eventually paid all money due to the IRS, with interest, so the problem was resolved."

Let's put aside the fact that even the IMF's own website makes clear the responsibility of its employees in regards to U.S. tax policy. That's just too "gray" an area. Let's put aside the fact that Geitner signed documents indicating his awareness of said policies.

The real issue here is that we now have a guy who doesn't even know how TurboTax works in charge of the IRS.

Then again, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee is a tax cheat too, so big surprise.

And while we're at it, let's put aside Daschle's tax issue too. That just leaves us with the fact that Obama invited a big fat lobbyist to his "No Lobbyists Allowed" Party (and he's not the only one). Now, as everyone has dutifully pointed out, he's the President of allllll of us. Therefore, I have no issue holding my
President to the promises he makes. Daschle should have been kicked to the curb, or never even considered, based on that alone.

I'll start believing in this hopeychangey thing when every promise ceases to have an exemption or an expiration date.

John,

Your should be "you're," the contraction for you are.

Also, "without impunity" means with lots of fear. The correct phrase is "with impunity."

Small but crucial errors. They completely change or cloud your intended meaning.

This is not a slam; you really need to work on grasping grammar, spelling, syntax, and just using American colloquialisms correctly.

Your post is accurate when it comes to my typing skills.Point taken. You are right.I have a problem with you posting under John G.People get confused.See, I already have the moniker, you need to find a new handle.Do not mess with me my liberal brother.Otherwise me and you are goning to have a confrontation that you can not win.You want to talk policy.........great, lets go.You want to talk syntax..well.....then you are another Scott B...........thats not a compliment. Best wishes ,John

Stop pointing out all the liberal tax cheats. It's a requirement to be in the democrat party these days, so please just overlook it. I don't know why it's even an issue.

John,

How is it that you "own" the moniker? I've been using John G (because that's my name) as long as I've been posting. And frankly, I think you are the only one concerned that people will confuse "john" with "John G." I don't have any such concern. I think people will know--very clearly--which John is speaking by our content.

Policy discussions are great. But let's face it, you cannot diminish or dismiss grammar and syntax. If you make people work too hard just to be able to "figure out" what you're trying to say, you've already lost.

I don't know what you do, but I work for an aerospace firm--a field that people don't generally associate with the spelling/grammar nazi. I'm a manager of a department (can't say which due to federal contract). But I'm in charge of hiring/firing people.

You know what my orders are when I peruse applications for jobs? Again, in AEROSPACE, I'm told to read applications with a red pen. If I find three errors (of any kind) on the one page, I shred the application.

And lastly, what is it with you "internet Republican" types and your need to talk big and brutish? How do you know I can't win a confrontation with you? You don't even know me.

Typical thuggery now known as conservativism.

Go ahead john, keep flexing those "internet muscles." Just don't strain a wire or tear a pixel.
