Junior Witter: "The champion will remain champion!"
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 05.07.2008

Earlier today we had a chance to speak to WBC junior welterweight titlist Junior Witter (36-1-1, 21 KOs) and challenger Timothy Bradley (21-0, 11 KOs) as part of a conference call to hype up their Saturday night fight on SHOWTIME's ShoBox: The next generation.

The event is being promoted by Hennessy Sports and will originate from the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, England.

The hard-hitting Witter is looking to make his third successful defense against the undefeated Bradley. Witter, of Bradford, England, will be defending his title in friendly territory just one hour from where he grew up. Bradley, of Palm Springs, Calif., a ShoBox veteran, has long been considered one of the division's top prospects and will be fighting in hostile territory and outside of California for the first time.

JUNIOR WITTER

"It's going to be great to be getting back in the ring. He's going to find out Saturday night that he's in with the champ."

"Ring rust isn't even a question for me. When I won the world title, I was out of the ring for 11 months and I did just fine. "

When asked about fighting Ricky Hatton, whom Witter has been calling out for some time now, Witter replied by saying, "I think the fight with Hatton will eventually happen. There's plenty of interested in the UK to make the fight happen, but I'd also like to fight Torres, Mayweather or Cotto."

"I predict an exciting fight and the champion will remain champion!"

TIMOTHY BRADLEY

Bradley was asked about whether or not he feels he needs more seasoning before getting a title shot and if this bout is coming too soon - Bradley replied with a simple "No way man, I'm ready!"

Bradley doesn't feel that he'll need a knockout to win on foreign soil.

"The judges have their own points of views and whatever a decision is, is what I live with. I want to leave no doubt however and I gotta make sure I beat the champion."

On fighting in the U.K. : "Yeah of course I have nerves, I mean it's not dancing (laughs). I'm really anxious and nervous at the same time."

"My dream has always been to fight for a title and win the WBC title."

"My prediction is that I want to win!"

-------------------------------------

Bradley vs. Witter will be televised by SHOWTIME on ShoBox: The New Generation, this Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10:45 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME (tape delayed)

Also on the SHOWTIME telecast is a spectacular co-feature pitting two young undefeated British prospects against each other. Hard-hitting John Murray, of Manchester, will take on the slick John Fewkes, of Sheffield, in a 10-round lightweight bout.
