"Mean" Joe Greene Speaks
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 07.24.2008

Less than a month away from his pivotal bout against Jose Miguel Torres on the August 13th edition of ESPN2's Wednesday Night Fights, unbeaten contender ‘Mean' Joe Greene is primed for his bout and also ready for all comers in a new weight class - 154 pounds.

"Training camp has been great for this fight and I can't wait to put on a spectacular performance for the national viewing audience on ESPN2," said Greene. "I know Torres likes to knock people out, but so do I, and we're gonna see who has the fastest trigger finger on August 13th. I know the answer, and unfortunately for Torres, he's gonna have to find out the hard way."

19-0 with 14 KOs, the pride of Queens, New York has been dazzling in recent performances as he has stopped Francisco Mora and Joshua Okine in successive bouts that have earned him top ten rankings from the WBO and WBA. But now the 22-year old rising star has his sights set on the big guns in the junior middleweight division, where he feels he will be even more devastating.

"I'm ready for any of the champions at 154 pounds, as well as anyone else in the division who wants to take me on," said Greene. "I'll be stronger and faster at junior middleweight and I will fight any one of the top fighters there tomorrow – the question is will they fight me?"

In particular, Greene has an intriguing bout in mind for later this year – an all Big Apple showdown against unbeaten Irishman John Duddy.

"If I can't get a title shot after beating Torres on August 13th, then I definitely want to stay busy and stay sharp and I can't think of a better way to do that for myself and boxing fans than to fight John Duddy," said Greene. "We both represent New York, we both come to fight, and the winner of our bout can't be ignored for a title shot. So let's make it happen."

"Heavy Hitters" is presented by Seminole Warriors Boxing and Main Events. Doors open at 6:30pm and the first bell rings at 7:30pm. ESPN2's Wednesday Night Fights broadcast begins at 9pm ET / 6pm PT. Tickets for "Heavy Hitters", priced at $152, $102, $52 and $27, are on sale now, and may be purchased at Hard Rock Live Box Office or TicketMaster.com
