Juan Manuel Lopez Crushes Cesar Figueroa
Posted by Carlos Calderon on 10.05.2008

Top Rank PPV

Alex "El Pollo" De Jesus vs. Jose Izquierdo
WBO Latino light welterweight champion Alex De Jesus improved his (19-0,13 KOs) record with yet another knock out. He showed great patience while slowly breaking down Izquierdo throughout the fight. Izequierdo was very game in his outing, but with no results after being knocked down in the third, fifth, and finally knocked out in the 8th round.

Jose "Carita" Lopez vs. Jonathan Perez
Jose "Carita" Lopez (38-7-2, 32 KOs) bullied his way to win via eighth round knock out against the game yet limited Jonathan Perez (13-5, 10 KOs). Perez almost looked like a fish out of water in the first few rounds, but later in the mid-rounds, he rallied to eventually slow down Lopez's offensive. The four-time world challenger and current WBO Latino super flyweight champion Lopez came out after the ring of the eighth round bell determined to finish the fight has he did. He is now next in line to challenge for the WBO Interim super flyweight belt later this year.

Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez vs. Cesar Figueroa
WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (23-0, 21 KOs) improved his record with yet again a sensational and jaw dropping knock out of Mexican Cesar Figueroa (30-7-2, 22 KOs) in the very first round. Lopez knocked out Figueroa with his very first combination after forty seven seconds left in the round to wrap up his very first defense. The power that he processes should not be questioned. Figueroa found out after being laid out flat on his face that Juan Manuel Lopez is here to stay. Other than the sensational knock out the other impressive moment of the night was the entrance that PR Best Promotions arranged for Juan Manuel Lopez. Its good to see boxing is improving its showcase of the sport. It is by far the best entrance I have seen in the boxing industry so far. Thumbs up to PR Best Promotions. Juan Manuel Lopez called out Israel Vazquez to a title unification match that I am pretty sure 100% of hardcore boxing fans have no problems with. He is scheduled to have another bout on the undercard of De La Hoya vs. Pacqauio this December. Hopefully the fight will be made by that time, although I doubt it.

HBO B.A.D

Sergio Martinez vs. Alex Bunema
Highly regarded prospect Sergio Martinez (4-1-1, 24 KOs) had a great showcase against Alex Bunema (30-6-2, 16 KOs). He outclassed Bunema the whole bout with his speed and constant hard left hands. Martinez wins the WBC Interim super welterweight championship belt after the eight round stoppage. Great things are in the horizon for young Martinez.

Alfredo "Perro" Angulo vs. Andrey Tsurkan
Count another win for Alfredo Angulo (14-0, 10 KOs) who completely outclassed Andrey Tsurkan (26-4, 17 KOs). Tsurkan was basically out worked and out slugged the whole time during this glorified sparring session. The fight should have been stopped in the fifth round, but the referee in the ring and the doctor were the only people who didn't seem to think so. It took Tsurkan's corner to finally submit in the tenth and finally round with about thirty seconds left on the clock. What a bad job by the ref and ring doctor.

Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Marcos Ramirez
2004 Olympic gold medalist and upcoming prospect Yuriorkis Gamboa (12-0, 10 KOs) again overlapses his questionable chin with a second round knock out of Marcos Ramirez (25-1, 16 KOs). Marcos did shake up Gamboa a little in the first round after scoring a knock down, but Gamboa answered the second round bell with sheer aggressiveness and speed. He dropped Ramirez twice in the second round. Gamboa seems too amateurish in his style and technique, but he always seems to win mostly because of his stunning speed and fast foot work. Weather it will work in the elite division I do not know, but till then we will have to be satisfied by his performance against lesser opposition.
