The former 154-pound champ to fight on the Versus network.
Golden Boy Promotions announced today that Winky Wright will be returning to the ring sooner than expected - on Thursday, December 4 at the Snoqualmie Casino in Seattle. It was previously thought that Wright would be returning sometime in February on an HBO card, and although that fight may still take place, Wright looks to fight before 2008 is over.
"Golden Boy Promotions is extremely excited to once again partner with VERSUS and bring world class boxing to the Pacific Northwest," said Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar de la Hoya. "An event featuring a fighter of the stature of Winky Wright that will be Snoqualmie Casino's first ever boxing event will make for an exciting and memorable night for boxing fans in the Seattle area."
The inaugural boxing event at Snoqualmie Casino will feature Wright taking on Michi Muñoz of Mexico. The fight will be a ten round super middleweight bout and will also include a co-featured bout. Winky last fought over a year ago, losing a decision to Bernard Hopkins at light heavyweight.
"It's great to be back and I can't wait to hear the bell ring," said Wright. "I had a nice break, but I've been training hard and now I feel better than ever."
Tickets go on sale Saturday November 15th and are priced starting at $50. They can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (206) 628-0888. The fight will air live on VERSUS at 8 p.m. ET.
Wow..I used to live in the Seattle area and I can tell you that it will be freezing in December but there will be good skiing for Winky. Its like all the good boxers of the past 10 years want to turn back the clock like B-Hop.
