Musing from the Bleachers 04:17:08: The Foiled Curse
Posted by Frank Fedele on 04.17.2008
Seems like a title for a black and white movie, but no, it is something more sinister than that. A Boston Redsox fan buried a David Ortiz jersey in the concrete of the new stadium to curse the Yankees new park. Thankfully, the jersey was removed so this curse will not be completed.
Hate
Have you ever hated something so bad that you would do anything to cause pain and suffering to that entity. No matter how silly. No matter how odd.
Well, apparently a construction worker on the new Yankee stadium felt that need. He buried a David Ortiz jersey in the concrete of the new Yankee stadium hoping to curse the Bronx bombers forever.
The offending jersey was, however, removed from the concrete so this curse would not affect the team in their new very expensive stadium. Randy Levine gave his reasoning for this move: "The first thought was, you know, it's never a good thing to be buried in cement when you're in New York," Levine said. "But then we decided, why reward somebody who had really bad motives and was trying to do a really bad thing?"
The construction worker in question, Mr. Gino Castignola, might have criminal charges levied against him from the team for this act.
Criminal charges.
For burying a jersey.
Wow.
Apparently the New York legal system isn't so overloaded with cases that it can handle something of this magnitude. Thank goodness for our legal system!!
Also, who knew that you can curse a team by merely placing its main rival's jersey in their home field? I shudder to think what will follow.
Hopefully whoever tries this the next time won't be stupid enough to actually talk about their "bad thing" to their fellows and get caught. That does make one wonder though……..
What the heck is buried under PNC Park to have the Pirates stink as long as they do???????
And what do you think they are burying in the new Shea stadium right now?
