411's NFL Power Rankings 10.24.07: Week 7
Posted by Don M. Dumas on 10.24.2007

First and foremost, I want to send my condolences to all those who have lost their homes in the Southern California Wildfires.

It is times like this that football is really put into perspective. Although we may yell and cuss at our televisions, maybe even occasionally get into a fistfight with rival fans, we are all in this together.

But, at times likes this football can also be theraputic. So this article is my lame attempt at helping others get their minds off of this tragedy, and maybe relieve some stress, if only for 5 minutes.

1The Colts dominated once again. The defense has been playing more physical lately, and RB Joseph Addai is running as hard as ever. Unlike other writers, I will remain true to the Colts being the number 1 team until they get beat, which should happen Week 9 against New England.previous rank: 1
2Did you see Randy Moss pulling down touchdowns against double-coverage? I am thrilled to see Moss playing up to his capabilities again. The defense is remarkable, too.previous rank: 2
3It is a good thing that Minnesota has no offense whatsoever. The defense gave Dallas fits early, and if the Vikes could have scored more on offense, they could have put the game out of reach. But, if my aunt my balls she'd be my uncle. So, Dallas climbs a bit in my rankings because they won.previous rank: 5
4Green Bay better be careful next week in Denver. The Broncos just beat a good Pittsburgh team, and Detroit just beat Tampa Bay. If Green Bay loses, the Lions will be tied for the division lead.previous rank: 6
5What a game that was in Denver. Historically, the Broncos are tough to beat at home, so I'm going to give the Steelers a break. It was close, but who didn't know it was over when Jason Elam got within 50 yards for the game-winning kick? They can their frustration out on the Bengals next week.previous rank: 3
6Other than the top 2 teams in The League, nobody is hotter than the G-Men right now. Winners of 5 straight, the Giants are quietly making a case for NFC supremacy. That defensive line is tough.previous rank: 8
7The Jags lost more than a game on Monday Night, as QB David Garrard was injured. It is believed he will only miss one game, but if he misses anymore than that, the Jags can hang it up.previous rank: 4
8Beneficiaries of a bye week, the Panthers move up a spot because there is so much bad football being played around the NFL right now.previous rank: 9
9Even without injured QB Vince Young, the Titans won in dramatic fashion. Kicker Rob Bironas kicked 8 field goals, including the game-winner. Maybe this team is more than just Young.previous rank: 10
10The Chargers have a banged up Texan team coming to town this week, and San Diego can finally get a strangle hold on the division with a victory. I'm betting they will.previous rank: 11
11I'm going to have to agree with Ray Lewis. Not running the ball on 2nd and 1 was a mistake. But, I still think this team is dangerous. Especially if RB Willis McGahee keeps running like he did against the Billsprevious rank: 7
12Did you see the look on the coaching staff's face when Arizona recovered the onside kick? It was hilarious; they couldn't believe it. They are extremely lucky to pull out the win. I'd put my money on Neil Rackers making that kick 9 out of 10 times.previous rank: 12
13There is nothing really spectacular on the Seahawks' stat sheet after their victory over the Rams, yet they won by 27 points. The return touchdown by Nate Burleson was a nice addition, but they really need RB Shaun Alexander to get going.previous rank: 14
14Great game by Denver. They are indeed a legitimate playoff contender, but they are not a championship caliber team yet. QB Jay Cutler was impressive, managing the game like a seasoned vet, and recovering make mistakes like one, too.previous rank: 20
15I did not expect the Chiefs to beat the Raiders on the road, but they did. The Raiders could not seem to move the ball very well against their defense, and the capitalized on mistakes. With the AFC being so tough, it is hard to imagine this team making the playoffs. But, stranger things have happened.previous rank: 22
16I still think the Bucs are better than their recent showing against the Lions. RB Ernest Graham is filling nicely in the running game, and even caught 13 balls from QB Jeff Garcia. Their game against Jacksonville will be a real test.previous rank: 13
17This is really a pity-placement. The Texans are going to get beat bad by San Diego this week, especially without QB Matt Schaub. The way they fought back against the Titans showed grit, though.previous rank: 15
18I don't what to make of the Lions. They play good one week, bad the next. With that said, they are only one game behind the Packers in the NFC North. Anything can happen in that division.previous rank: 23
19I'm not sure if the Bears are back, but they did salvage a season tht would have been lost if they weren't winners last week. If they can beat Detroit at home, they will go into their bye week 4-4, and able to regroup for the second half.previous rank: 25
20What a heartbreaking loss to the ‘Skins. They have a bye week to lick their wounds, but then face the Bucs in Tampa. If they lose, they playoffs might be out of reach.previous rank: 16
21Cleveland faces the Rams next, which should be an easy win. After that, however, they face Seattle, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore. Therefore, I dropped them ahead of time.previous rank: 17
22This team still isn't going to make the playoffs, but it's nice to see they have some pride. RB Reggie Bush played great, fighting for the go-ahead touchdown and 2-point conversion.previous rank: 27
23Maybe this team isn't so bad. They played Dallas extremely tough, and beat the Ravens. With the Jets and Bengals up next, they could .500 real soon. Too bad they play in the same division as New England.previous rank: 26
24Good teams don't let their opponent drive almost the entire length of the field with under 2 minutes remaining with no timeouts left. They did a good job keeping the ball out of Devin Hester's hand, though.previous rank: 18
25The Raiders have to start beating teams they're capable of beating. Their inconsistent play has to be driving their fans crazy. I must be crazy, too, because I think they'll beat the Titans this week.previous rank: 19
26The offense is letting the defense down. The ‘D' is creating turnovers, and even scoring themselves. Yet, they can't win any games. What a waste. Why did they think Tarvaris Jackson was going to be good enough?previous rank: 21
27The Bengals beat the Jets. Did anybody even notice? I didn't. I still think this team is terrible, and Pittsburgh is going to prove it next week.previous rank: 28
28The bottom five teams just keep shuffling, but I get the feeling Atlanta is going to soon separate themselves from the rest of the pack. It's too bad they lost Leftwich, though.previous rank: 30
29The 49ers aren't playing too well. Who knew that QB Alex Smith was the key to their success? Trent Dilfer is a born loser, so until Smith returns, don't expect much from this team.previous rank: 24
30Seriously, why keep playing Chad Pennington? The guy can't throw the ball 25 yards. Did you see him get picked off trying to throw the 15-yard out and have it taken back for a touchdown? That is one of the toughest throws in football, and you have an arm to make that throw. At least know his limitations if you insist on playing him, Mangenius.previous rank: 29
31QB Marc Bulger was rusty in his return, to say the least. He fumbled three times, and threw 3 interceptions. It's really the offensive line's fault, but why not blame the QB? It is more fun that way.previous rank: 31
32I could not believe the way the Fins let the Pats stomp all over them. I mean, everyone knew that couldn't win the game, but 42-7 at halftime? Come on, have a little pride.previous rank: 32
