The Office 10.18.08: NFL Week 7
Posted by Ken Schmidt on 10.18.2008
I can't help but boast a little over the Cowboys downfall, I am only human. Not to mention I will try to go 10/10 yet another week with my biggest pick of the year.
Talk about a tough week for public enemy number one for me, the Dallas Cowboys. Tony Romo breaks his pinky, and he might push hard to play, but the fact is any QB with five fingers is a better option than one with four. It is simple fact; you need all five fingers to grip a football (try it I dare you). Tell Bret Favre to shut up and let Romo rest his broken finger. Adding insult to injury Pacman Jones has been suspended most likely for as long as it takes for him to turn his behavior around, maybe alcohol counseling will help. I don't care how much people defend a professional athlete being able to go out and party when he wants, the first thing they will teach him in alcohol counseling is to avoid people and places that make him drink i.e. strip clubs, so I dare someone at this point to say Pacman should go to strip joints if he wants too. Pacman's life aside the Cowboys are now without a good second corner option. Finally, in another horrible GM decision the Cowboys trade a 1st, 3rd, and 6th round pick for Roy Williams. Do the Cowboys need Roy Williams? Does this make them a better Superbowl contender? Absolutely not! Now they are without three picks next off-season, including their number one. If I am giving up three picks I am getting something that makes my team a better Superbowl contender, LIKE A CORNER!
Sports Kid Units
I am currently 42 out of 50 units so far this season. Want to listen to me yet? This is a good week to start because there is one game I like A LOT.
Seahawks @ Buccaneers
Sunday nights game features a very injured Seahawks club heading into Tampa to face off against a Tampa team that is riding high after their big win last week. This is a big line but one player makes this game easy to pick for me, Seneca Wallace. The Seahawks running attack is going to be put to sleep by the Bucs early and once Tampa goes up double digit points early it will be on Wallace to bring them back. There is no doubt for me on this one, I like this game more than any game so far this season. 7 Sports Kid Units on the Bucs –10
Colts @ Packers
I gave the Packers way to much credit going into this season. I am not sure it is the Favre departure that is killing this team but something just seems off. Meanwhile the Colts seem to be finding their stride, even if it is only in the 4th quarter of games. This line is surprisingly low because of the absence of Joey Addai from the Colts lineup, but anyone who took Addai with their first round fantasy pick will tell you, he really wasn't doing much for them anyway. I am taking the Colts here will a decent amount of confidence, enough to put 3 Sports Kid Units on the Colts –1.5
The Office
This season has really been a joke in the early going. Melissa Fox openly admits to knowing nothing about football, though she is learning week to week, and no one is even close to her right now. For all my great picks on the Sports Kid Units my overall record does not reflect a successful season, but at least the money is rolling on. Here are the standings followed by the table of champions.

Melissa Fox 49-35
Debbie Schmidt 42-42

Suicide
Dan Owen continues on his trek towards a perfect season. The Vikings made him sweat last week, this week he is using the Redskins, hoping they bounce back from their embarrassing loss last week. My favorite pick for this week are the Bucs, a team you want to use when playing a bad team at home considering their tough schedule the rest of the way.
Time to Punt
Did anyone think that Matt Ryan would have such a great start to his NFL career? I was sure he'd be good but the real stand out player for the Falcons has been Roddy White. This guy doesn't get much fantasy respect to hang with the big guns like Moss or T.O. or Andre Johnson. As of this week Roddy White sits third on the Yahoo rankings for WR behind just Greg Jennings (the bomb catching machine) and Larry Fitzgerald. If I were drafting a team today I might hesitate to take White too early but the guy seems like he is the real deal and could be a great 1-2 punch for years to come when paired with the young QB from Downington PA.
do some of u even watch football? i mean cowboys over rams isnt awful, but cowboys should still win. but someone picked CHIEFS over TITANS??? really??? and MOST people picked the niners over the GIANTS. just cause the giants lost to the browns, a good team, doesn't mean they lost their touch. get some people that know football to do this column.

Bengals over Steelers?! Christ, I LIVE in Cincinnati and I call bullshit on that one. They might have had a chance with Palmer, but not anymore.

wow..... so you guys don't understand picking with the spreads at all do u?

I picked the Rams. I think the Cowboys will win, but not by 12 points, which is the purpose of the spread in these picks.

Wow.....so you don't understand how to indulge your readers. By the way, what happened to your column for week 6? Not enough idiocy to fill a page and a half? If you're throwing in the towel, then, really, get whoever is in charge to find someone who would love to write about football. Hack.

Bungles are 0-6 and are without the only decent player they have in Carson Palmer. Not to mention most sports writers are picking the Steelers as the 2nd best team in football right now behind the Titans.
Chiefs over Titans? 49ers over the Giants? Rams over Cowboys? Seriously?

So...yeah...about them Cowboys...

Hey good call on that Steelers/Bengals game guys. HA HA HA HA HA

I had the Steelers to cover those 11 WOOT.
And for those haters of the Rams and 49ers, they both covered the spread (or won outright), and anyone who picked the Chiefs (cough Rizz) was just foolish anyway.
And about indulging readers, this is a column dedicated to gambling and office pools (hence the name) so if you are looking for straight winners, which is generally an easy thing to do there are lots of other good columns here on 411 to read (like Cody Dalton's) but for those looking to pick those spreads, they usually come here.
